ok so my entire itunes collection of 5k+ songs is on my netbook. i don't want to clutter my m11x with all that and i'm just gonna keep that as my itunes/music computer. is there anyway through the microphone jack and an aux in cable i could just use the m11x as a set of speakers? it could be very very convienent for me. b/c the speaker build into the ipod touch sucks.

use double 3,5mm jack wire. netbook - speaker out >> m11x - mic in

I don't want my itunes on my m11x. i want to keep it on my netbook. i just want to use the speakers.

EDIT: i got it to work. all you have to do is plug it in, and run sound recorder and it works just fancy

FWIW, I think bitbytebit had the right answer-- share your existing iTunes library with an iTunes install on your m11x. No files to transfer and no wires (as long as they're both on the same network.)

In any case, I have used my m11x with a mic in cable and it plays just fine like you found; and if you don't want to use sound recorder you can go into Windows microphone set up and check the box to "listen" to the input without running any extra software.

Or invest in some relatively inexpensive speakers that would still outperform any laptop speakers...just throwing that out there.

    ugh laptop speakers suck.

get some headphones or a pair of speakers.

as for not using up the M11X HDD space, you can just network the other computer and play over the network or use an external hard drive.
