Hey guys.
so on the i5 m11x R3 when the computer goes into turbo boost mode does it automatically go all the way to 2.3 GHz or is it smart enough to only go as fast as needed? thanks.

As fast as needed I guess. Not sure about that. Not even sure if it turbo's all core's or just 1.

2.3 should be the max using one core. The 2 core max will be lower, I'm not sure of the exact number because I don't know the multipliers of that processor.

When the CPU is working on something, Intel Turbo Boost is designed to make the CPU run as fast as possible. The goal is for the CPU to get its work done as quickly as possible so that it can re-enter and maximize the amount of time that it spends in one of the lower power sleep states like C1E, C3 or C6. When a Core i CPU core enters the C6 sleep state, it turns off all power going to that core so power consumption approaches zero.
Running a modern CPU fast is where it runs most efficiently. This is how maximum performance per watt is achieved.
The maximum speed these CPUs run at is based on how many cores are currently active and whether the CPU is operating below its turbo power limit. The CPU constantly adjusts the amount of turbo boost, hundreds of times a second, based on these factors as well as the core temperature.
You can download ThrottleStop, click on the TRL button and have a look at what your CPU's Turbo Ratio Limits are.
