I think return w/in 21 days of delievery = no penalty. Some reps might tell you there's restocking fee, but it will depend on who you talk to from what I've read.

I’ve had very good luck selling used laptops on ebay. I can usually get most of my money back and occasionally I get more than what a new one would cost!

Man I hope I’m not supplying some terrorist cell with my used computers

If you don't really need the extra power and carry it around too much, settle for a nice 23" screen.

2 months is bit too long to change your mind on a laptop. Try craigslist. I'd rather do face to face deals.

21 days is the return policy. I called today to return mine. I was given 3 options: (1) keep it and get a $35 credit; (2) return it for a refund and be subject to a 15% restocking fee; or (3) return it but get a different computer and not be subject to the 15% restocking fee. After trying the Mx11 for a week, I realized it isn't sufficient to be my main PC gaming machine so I opted for #3 and ordered the Mx15.

I think the restocking fee depends on state you live in, or the customer rep you talk to. Either way, good thing you ended up with what you needed.

I don't understand all of you all who return this to get something much different....such as a huge screen laptop with minimal battery life...did you do any research when purchasing this?

    Different people have different requirements.

The Alienware M11x is not the "perfect" laptop. The Alienware M15x has a larger screen (and better quality screen). It has options for more powerful CPU's, and it has a more powerful GPU. It has a full-sized keyboard.

Yes, the M15x is heavier. Yes, the M15x has shorter battery life. But I may be a user that doesn't care about those. I may be a user that would rather have a heavier laptop that has more gaming power.

Just because the M11x fits YOUR needs, doesn't mean that YOUR needs are the same as everybody else's needs.

^^ Indeed. The M11x has a very unique set of strengths that make it somewhat special. It's not the lightest or smallest 11.6" notebook. It's not the best gaming notebook. It doesn't have the best battery life. But it certainly is top of the heap if you want a notebook that does a good job in all three of those categories - portability, decent gaming performance and battery life.

I think he was asking why some people bought the m11x in the first place, if all they wanted was the m15x.

Nominally, I want both, but you are right - some people don't realize what they really want until they try it out.

Of course there's nothing wrong with someone returning their machine because it didn't fulfill their expectations, however some people might have some outrageous expectations like getting 10k 3DMark Vantage score with their M11x. If people did some research they would've been able to narrow down the list of laptops that fits their needs instead of ending up with something that's way off from what they actually need.

+1 After a couple months with this guy I cannot imaging getting a 15.
Not the best at everything but more than adequate for most IF one also has powerful desktop as well. Mine is perfect for where it lives.

As Kent, Slickie and others have mentioned.. the m11x is really a very unique laptop. I have had mine since the end of march and I like it. I also just received the m15x with the 5850. I was on the fence but after using the 15 over the weekend I am going to sell the m11x. I had to really sit down and catalog my time spent on personal pc use. I think others should do the same..
    1. light gaming, portability, weight -> m11x
    2. heavy gaming, static use, heavy 17inch laptop feel, -> m15x

Each are great. I dont regret buying the m11 at all. I doubt I will get anything close to what I paid for it on my wife's ebay store but I am fine with it.

I can't stress enough how large the m15x is.. Feels like 2.5 m11's together.

@Arklight - if you can't return it, just sell it. The bottom line m15x is incredibly powerful paired with the 5850. I bet money that my machine would probably only score about 10k or 11k on 3dmark, which really isn't much above the The m11x R2 (I7)... However the fps scores are a different story. (This is why 3dmark06 is not the tool to use...)
