Hello everyone! I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm a complete newbie when it comes to overclocking the m11x r3. Does anyone know of a 'beginners guide' or some decent settings to try? I'm not very familiar with the bios overclocking settings in this machine. (Even though I know it's limited compared to the r2/r1. Thanks!

hey, the r3 has turbo boost so it automatically clocks up when you are doing something CPU intensive. The r2 could use speedstep to lock the turboboost at maximum but it doest work with the 2nd gen i cores, the upside is that the r3 has a higher clock speed than the r2. but thats just the cpu, you can also overclock the GPU too, download MSI afterburner and use the sliders to SLOWLY boost the clock speed of your GPU. make it go up 5 to 10 points at a time and test it with the program that comes with it, Kombustor. use the GPU burn in feature and look at the numbers on the right, if they suddenly become lower than what you set the sliders to reboot and try a lower OC untill you find your highest stable point. goodluck!

Thanks deadboy90. Do you happen to know anything about the built-in bios overclocking settings?

i have an R3 and can confirm its bios overclocking settings, however i have never tried it because it only overclocks by about 3-5% which is really not worth the effort...

Yeah it's not much, but only takes about a minute to change. Just hit F2, you'll see the menu options. It's pretty self-explanatory, but there are step-by-steps vids on youtube if you look. I figure, may as well squeeze as much power out of the system as possible. :)

I've messed with the R3 overclock in the bios. Most people will say 3-5% well its really about 3% max it brings your bus speed to 102.8 instead of 99.? and you will not see a diffrence at all. 26X102.8=2672.8 Mhz vs. 2600Mhz Plus remember this is over just the first core the other 3 acording to TS will be running at 2364.4 Mhz

Thanks guys, that's what I figured. I did a little test last night and went up .2 points in the Windows performance test (As silly as it is, I know), so it's not really that much. I was playing around with MSI Afterburner a bit as well. Does anyone know how to have an overclock only work when the machine's plugged in by chance?

the Gpu overclock wont drain your battery any more than the stock clocks will so you can have it on even if on battery. the only way it would affect your battery is if you did the BIOS volt mod and even them it wouldnt be by much
