I'm sure a lot of people are looking at the r1 with the current pricing right now.
Throw out usage, whats the best bang for the buck, and is the i5 going to provide longevity vs price down the road. I'm just looking for some others quick opinion's.

    1. m11x r1 core 2 duo new barebones, 2g ram 160gb 5200rpm hd for 550 and upgrade to 8gb ram and ssd or 7200rpm drive through newegg as money and deals allow.

    or

    2. m11x r2 i5 referb 4g ram, 320gb 7200rpm hd for 800, and upgrade to 8g ram later.

Is the i5 processor worth the extra bucks on a referb, vs the really good pricing on the r1 new right now?

    Thanks,

Try to get that R2 down to $700. With 15% off and two day shipping I got it for $750, then got it down to $700 after it was delivered.

Id stay away from 8gb too, 4gb is plenty right now. You wont saturate 4gb with gaming and multitasking, but an ssd is a good idea.

    Hey guys,

If I were to buy from the outlet and upgrade the basic warranty to 3 year (+199$) would it cover me globally (as in a tech the next day anywhere I am in the world)? I noticed there's 3 types of warranties ...are all of them global or just the most expensive one? And do all of them send a tech or just the premium?

imo it really depends on what your needs are. in the end the r2 is faster if you use a program called throttle stop and overclock. which can make for a better experience if this is going to be your main pc. but aside from a small fps difference there are only a handful of games the r1cant play that the r2 can. so in the case of more cpu intencive games like sc2 the r2 is better.

but... id say the r1 is the better buy for some one like me (has a gaming desktop) for a few reasons. around 2 more hrs battery life, no optimus related issues and its brand new for less money.

How long ago did you buy the m11x?

Another question.... Does anyone have an ideas or estimates as to how much longer the r1 might be sold new?

unless if you're going to be using certain programs i reallly don't see the need for 8gb... so if you're going to get the 2gb ram, get the 4gb from ama or newegg. and the ssd is probs the best thing to upgrade later because alienware right now is wayyyy overpriced (smaller ssd with a large external hd is probs the best way to go... a slim model would be light and very portable)

As a fan of loading up on memory I have to agree, for most people there is simply no need for more that 4-Gig *right now* unless you have some very specific application needs.
