Considering that we're stuck at 800 anyway, I wonder if I'd go with the Gskill (CL9-9-9-24) or the Mushkin's (CL7-7-7-20)...

@All - the ram that came in my R1 is 6-6-6-15 ... isnt lower better? Has anyone tried a few different speeds to see what the benefits are?

    Best Wishes, StevenX

@stevenxowens792, you're right, CAS latency is generally better when lower, but a higher CAS latency at a much higher memory speed (ie: 1333) will still be better than a lower CAS latency at a lower speed (ie: 800).

Problem is choosing between to different RAM with different CL's at marginally close speeds (1333 vs 1066). For example (taken from Wikipedia):

DDR3-1333 CL9 has a first word latency of 13.5 ns while
DDR3-1066 CL7 has a first word latency of 13.13 ns which could make it quicker on paper...

Our problem is worsened by the fact that we're stuck at 800...

But really, can we see the difference in normal use...?

    Stuck at 800?
Does this not increase when we OC the CPU? CPU-Z seems to say so.

Not as good as being able to up the memory on its own but certainly pushing closer to 1066.

That's what a lot of people are saying (apparently a limit of the ULV), perhaps (and hopefully) I'm wrong too.

I dont believe the memory gets faster than 800 regardless of oc or not. I do know that memset (i will have to get in front of my m11x for the real name) allows us to change the latency. My mem will only allow 65512 (or something close to that)... made very little difference in 3dmark if I remember correctly... However if someone can show a 2-3 fps improvement in a game based on going from 6-6-6-15 to say 4-4-4-12 or 3-3-3-12 I would spend the money right now!

    BW,

    StevenX

I dont see the point of buying 1333+ RAM if the machine only supports 800?

that is a good price... :)

I live across a canada computer and if I can avoid it, I would prefer not to give them the business... somehow I feel everyone in the store lack customer service skill.. especially the guy at the cashout

To the OP: my m11x uses that ram ;) no problems here...

I bought this @ 1333mhz because I got a sweet deal, the same price as 1066mhz...

Mabey we should start a petition to have them put in memory settings in the bios so we can tune our RAM. I am a fan of what EVGA does with thier bios. It would be really sweet to have those kind of options.

Although i think they would have to leave out voltage settings. Or mabey put it in so we could under volt.
