Well since the game isn't out yet, no one can give you a clear-cut answer. However, an educated guess from myself would say that you would be able to to play with no problem whatsoever on at leats medium settings. \

I pretty sure they will do fine, Sense they run crysis 2 and other cpu and gpu intensive games good.

And its valve so i pretty sure they will use the same half life/left4dead engine.

I know the r2 will for sure but i also know the r1 will have no problems either sense my old 5year old dell 9300 laptop with 1.74 single core and a 7800gtx runs both left 4 deads and all half lifes fine.

And i never go by PC-Requirements they mostly are wrong lol

I use my android phone to initiate the download on my gaming computer at home while I'm at work.

By the time I get off work, the download is complete & ready to go. :D

cool but i mean like what utorrent does and lets you define what time and what day to download between because in Australia we have capped internet plans: so if i wanted to buy portal 2 i would need to make sure i would have enough quota to do it and that's why i want a scheduler so i can download while i sleep.

I could run Portal 1 at full maxed out settings and max AA. Because there wasn't much on the levels, there were no NPCs "Not including turret things" and usually there was a room with one contraption (shield barrier). Man, this is hard to explain.

It was a pain in the butt to figure out as a first timer, but I created batch files and used Windows Task Scheduler to download Steam games for me. I just bought Borderlands GOTY on sale for $7.50, and it was 12.3 GB. I have Hughesnet satellite internet, which has a 200MB daily cap, and free download time between 1 and 6 am. I don't get off work until 3 am, so I had to figure out a way to start my downloads at 1 and stop them at 6 when I'm in bed. It was interesting, but my PC knowledge just went up a notch.

Lol? I have a 40GB cap for 1 month. Suckers at telecom don't know that your usage doesn't reset at the last day which it never does but you have your full speed internet (You get 5 KB internet if you pass 40GB) even if you have passed the cap. So I download more then 60+GB things every last day of my internet so it counts toward my old usage, not new usage. They must think I download 60+ Gb games with 5 KB in one day. My fast internet (normal) is 10MB highest.

I'm having issues getting higher than 30fps... R2 here. On portal 1 and L4D2, I get 60+fps consistently. Anyone else having the same problems?

I live in the country and it's either that crappy satellite or the abomination called dial-up. If I pass the 200MB daily cap, mine shuts down to 5kbps for 24 hours from the time the cap was exceeded. My max actual download speed is an even 100kbps, less or none at all when really cloudy or storming. I can pay to reset my cap, but it costs $5 a pop, so I'm out on that one. I bought Borderlands last Thursday (I think) when it went on sale on Steam, and downloading every night, plus some time tethered to my jailbroken iPhone last night, I'm a little over halfway through. It'll be worth it for $7.50. I own it on PS3, with 2 DLC's, but this was cheaper than one of the remaining 2 that I don't have. I've been hearing stories about people's games not playing right and having to download it again from Steam, and God I hope that don't happen to me.

Ok, so now I'm clocking in about 10fps. I'm OC'd to 160hz w/turbo, 550core/1320shaders/890memory with throttlestop 20/60. This is getting frustrating.....is anyone able to run this smoothly??

That's odd...I am able to run the game just fine on high settings (minus effects, which is on medium) without any noticeable lag without needing to overclock anything. This may sound dumb on my part but...you did switch to the NVIDIA graphics, right?

EDIT: Maybe it'd be useful to put up my system specs (I can't seem to find where to edit my signature).

Playing it on my R1 at full settings as far as I can gather just tried and turned everything to the max and no problems. I'd say it equates really well to how the laptop runs Left 4 Dead 2 if anybody needs a reference.

Sure. First, go into your Steam library and right click on the game that is not yet downloaded, then create shortcut on the desktop. Go to the shortcut you just made, right click, properties, and in the box marked URL it should say "steam://rungameid/8980", but no quotes. Your game will be a different number, unless it happens to be Borderlands GOTY. Now, make a copy of your steam shortcut on your desktop, but rename it. Mine was Borderlands DL. Right click on that shortcut, and after the steam.exe location and quotations in the Target box type "applaunch 8980", but using your game number and no quotes. I should look just like this in the Target box ( "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe" applaunch 8980 ). Do not use the parentheses, I only used them because Windows already uses quotes in the box. Also make sure you use your game number. To test it out, open Task Manager and make sure Steam.exe is not running. If it is, end the process. Then double click on your new " Game DL" shortcut. It tells steam you want to play, but steam says "I don't have that game downloaded, so let me go download it for you real quick" Open Steam it should be downloading. Now that you have your shortcut, time to schedule it. Open Control Panel, search for "Task" in the search bar. Under Administrative Tools, click Schedule Tasks. On the right side, click "Create Task", not "Create Basic Task". Name it whatever you want, mine was Borderlands DL. Go to the next tab, Triggers. Click New at the bottom, then check the Daily box or whatever your schedule should be, then select the start date and start time in the boxes to the right, then OK. Go to the next tab, Actions, then click New at the bottom. The action defaults to "Start a program", so you just need to find your "Game DL" shortcut on the desktop. Find it, select it, then click OK at the bottom. If you get an error, make sure your shortcut follows the rules noted above. It took me several tries to figure out the problem. Now, if you did everything right, Windows will start downloading your game for you on the schedule you designated. To stop the download, there aren't many options. What I did is the easiest, and best for the M11x's lifespan. First things first, open "My Computer" or any Windows folder. At the top, click "Tools", then "Folder Options". Click on the "View" tab, and scroll down until you see the box that says "Hide extensions for known file types" and uncheck it. Next open your favorite text editor, I just used Notepad provided by Windows under Start, All Programs, Accessories, then click Notepad. In your new text document, type this exactly but without the quotes
"C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe Powrprof.dll, SetSuspendState 0,1,0" Save your text document as Sleep.bat or whatever you want to call it on your desktop. You should now have a file with two little blue gears on it called Sleep.bat, or whatever you named it. Double click it and your computer should shut down in sleep mode. This little file is much handier than all of the menu and clicks to put it to sleep. If I shut the lid on my M11x, it won't resume, so it's either Start, Shutdown, Sleep, or just click this bad boy. When you restart it, if it went into Hibernate, click Start, All Programs, Accessories, Run. In the Run box, type "powercfg -hibernate off" but without quotes. This can be reversed later by following the steps again but replacing "off" with "on". You'll know if it hibernated by how long it takes to resume Windows. Sleep resumes almost instantly, but hibernate takes minute or two. Now go back to the task scheduler and create another task using the steps above, but this time the action being your new Sleep.bat file. It's not nearly as bad as it might sound, you just have to make sure everything is exactly right. With the steps I listed, start to finish should be no more than 10 minutes. You can also use this guide and the task scheduler to make Windows do all kinds of things when you're not there to do it yourself. I know it's long-winded, but I hope this helps someone.

P.S. For whatever reason, if Steam is already running when Task Scheduler tries to start the game, it won't download. Steam must not be running. So far, I have found no way to kill steam.exe completely other than Task Manager.

will do, though I think I'll do this on my desktop.

EDIT: No good! it loads steam but sits on the "you're about to install the game" pop up and that means still need to manually start the download!

running on max everything i get 30-60 FPS. at med settings pretty much stays locked @ 60 FPS.

this game runs very nice in single player.

leaving some monitors open i can see it basically runs the CPU 100% the whole time and about 2Gb of RAM. on the video it averages about 50-80% GPU usage and about 200-400Mb or RAM.

temps dont go over 55c GPU / 45c CPU

I just tried this out on my R2 with shaders model details etc on high. it was running (or crawling, rather) at about 8 frames per second.
Ive been having some problems with the computer just crashing after around 20 minutes of gameplay on games like the sims so i updated my drivers and everything. However, obviously, performance is still ty. I have whitelisted the games. So all i have to say is... what the hell?

My R1 runs it with no problem (everything max)

    1. check your runing processes to see if something unusual going on
    2. disable your antivirus and try again (there is a known issue with steam stat folder and realtime virus check)

is it just portal-2 ? or you have the same problem with other steam games too
