just got my new R3, beautiful machine :)

    its nebula red, i7, 8gb, 750gb hdd

    Quick Q
I only get around 1/2 or 1/3 of the gaming performance on battery, is that normal or is there a setting somewhere I cant find? (I realize it will hurt battery time, would still be able to set it to full performance on battery)

and when gaming on AC, the fan is always on and at full blast, not exactly silent or quiet! :) is that normal for R3?

Press the windows key and hit X

You'll see power options, change it to high performance

The Alienware power management might be affecting it as well.

Should be in the command center found in the start menu I believe. Not completely sure though, I've never messed with it.

damn, still having terrible fps on battery

f.ex. in Rift, I get 40-50fps, as soon as I unplug AC it drops to ~14 fps.

Plug it back in and fps jumps right back to 40-50fps.

This is with High performance power plan selected, and in Alienware Fusion I found 2 settings, processor power management, it had 5% on battary but 100% on AC, changed both to 100%, and Graphics Processor, which had balanced on battery, but I changed both to High Performance, still no luck

Im out of ideas, reinstall win7?

    dude

left click the battery icon bottom right

    click more power options

    click change plan settings

    click change advanced power settings

    scroll down to graphics processor

click on battery and change from balanced to max performance

like i said in my post, it was set to max performance.

But I found out what it was, in the Nvidia control panel, under manage 3D settings, there is a setting called Power Management mode, it was on adaptive, changed it to prefer maximum performance and fps is now normal on battery.

weird noone else has seen this issue, this is the way my machine came from alienware
