just picked up the R1 from fedex.

couple observations: the build seems okay but, the keyboard curves up slightly at backspace, insert, delete and home. kind of aggravating. it also doesn't rest flat: there is a definite rock to the computer as i type this. i also see spaces on the hinges were the rods are exposed but after reviewing videos, this seems normal or at least acceptable.

are these concerns warranted? should i rma immediately?

also, just downloaded all the updates from dell (had to put in M11x manually since it didn't recognize my computer by using the system scan or by imputing the service tag number. aggravating. c'mon this should be automatic, no?) saved the updates, wondering which ones to install.

hope this purchase was worth it.

    thanks in advance

The hinge space seems normal as a lot of people have that. Personally, my keyboard is flat but there is some space when I put the screen down to close it. If you want to RMA it, call Alienware at (866) 287-6727, not Dell. At least, I think that's the number.

The hinge spacing seems normal so I agree with TalonH. As far as the system not laying flat, that deffinately should NOT be happening. Im still waiting for mine to arrive so Im not sure if they have rubber feet (Im sure they do, all notebooks have them), is any of them missing? If not I would RMA it.

it does have rubber feet, but (i don't have it in front of me right now) there is a slight rocking. i'm a bit concerned.

i'll have it constantly for the next 48 hours or so home and at work. i'll know by the end of the week if i'm keeping it. hopefully it works out because there's nothing else like this out there.

    i'll update by tomorrow night.
