    Hey guys..

I'm pretty new to this place and in despite of all the problems m11x users are having, I decided to purchase it because I just LOVE the design and its performance.

    May be I shouldn't have...

I received mine on October 7th (unusually fast as I ordered on September 29th) and have only been using it for a little more than a week now.

I recently noticed that there are three problems with it:
    1) Gaps of the hinge on the left and right sides are way different. Right gap is much larger.
    2) Right part of the palm rest is much higher in comparison to the left part of the palm rest. I can't close laptop properly because of this...
    3) I can clearly see a gap at the bottom of the AC plugging place. I'm afraid that dust gets in everytime.

Just now Alienware technician came to my house and determined that my laptop is pretty badly manufactured and suggested me to either replace parts and fix it, exchange to a new one or refund.

The thing is, I REALLY REALLY like this laptop and I can't seem to find a laptop that can fulfill m11x r2. I'm planning to ask for a brand new one but I'm afraid that it will be the same as the design of m11x r2 seems to be faulty... Should I refund? I cannot simply seem to find any good ultraportable gaming laptop that can replace my m11x r2...

Any comments or suggestions? Thanks =)

    p.s. i ordered m11x r2 through Dell Hong Kong

I think the bigger gap on the right side of the LCD is normal. Though frustrating considering the price of the notebook.

    You lucky.. =P I
decided to ask for replacement for a brand new one so I guess I will have to wait two weeks or more for it to be produced and arrive.
I am actually also going to ask them whether I can keep using the laptop I have now until I receive the replacement one.
Do you think this is possible?

I am not sure.. Some say that left side gap is larger than the right one and some say they seem pretty equal. I wish I get an equal gap one because I don't want to use a laptop which its lcd is tilted to the left...

M11x is pretty notorious now for its terrible quality control. I have numerous tiny little problems ie laptop wobbles, screen isnt perfectly aligned, spacebar is unevenly lit. Its really terrible for this price range. I guess they are just cutting costs with QC and hiring bad employees.

Get a replacement. Despite inevitable small physical flaws, if you get a decent one you will be happy with the performance. I do love my M11x.

I feel the same way. It's a great machine that comes with a few fatal flaws... hence the sig. I suggest getting a new one, as mine came flawless (ignoring engineering flaws).

without a shadow of a doubt.....demand a replacement. I like you saw the negatives still ordered it got unlucky with the first 2. 3rd one is great.
Slight difference in mine on the left gap compared to right but only slightly.
Had since August opened and closed the lid a lot. No problems there yet. Can OC@166 TS to max 14 on both cores. Very happy with it. you will be too when you get the right one.
    Good luck

Difference between the left gap and the right gap is clearly visible for mine so it really annoys me to use a laptop with screen tilted to the left.. I really really really hope that I get a well built one for exchange...

I have heard some people get really lucky, for example
One person on this forum has the standard M11xR2 laptop, lowest things, i5 processor, 2gb of ram, etc.. Then he had a hinge problem called up alienware and they said they would replace it
three weeks later he got a m11xr2 with i7 proccesor, 4gb of ram, better hardrive.
He got really lucky ;) and maybe you can to =P

haha I actually have m11x r2 laptop with i7 processor and 4 gb ram so..
I just wish I get one without any "hinge gap difference" problems as it really annoys the hell outta me whenever I use my laptop.

I actually would if I have already used my laptop for more than a month or so but unfortunately, I only used it for six days...

I was surprised that the technician who came today told me that the replacement parts for repairs are NOT new but refurbished and warned me whether I would like to replace parts, ask exchange for a brand new one or ask for refund. I will therefore choose for exchange if they can and if they don't allow me to exchange for a brand new one, I am out: refund.

Dell will be calling me tomorrow as I missed their phone call today at 5:13 PM... Hope they allow me to exchange it for a brand new one !

I would actually prefer a new "refurbished" one because it has been tested by another user and has already been fixed therefore decreasing the chance of it being faulty
