So I'm not quite sure what's happened, exactly.

I cracked open my laptop yesterday to check the keyboard's connection, as I was having trouble changing its backlight colour. (I'm fairly sure it was due to a problem with the cable not staying in place) I put my laptop back together and, lo and behold, it refused to turn on.

I've opened the laptop up 4 more times to check for loose cables and ensure I didn't forget to reconnect anything. I've taken out the battery and attempted to turn it on with just the AC adapter plugged in, nada. Battery shows 5 full lights when I check it, and it had been working fine up to this, so I doubt it would be that. My laptop refuses to respond; the alien head doesn't light up at all, and when I press it my computer shows no sign of trying to boot (no fan, no beeps, nothing whatsoever). I'm wondering whether there's an internal piece I need to replace, and if anyone has a list of the internal bits that deal with the power, cos I can't think of much else it would be...

What exactly did you touch and take out to get to the keyboard? You should've just had to take out the battery and power cover for it, which wouldn't have done anything. But if you touched one of the pins for any of the connectors, or something else, you could've possibly shocked it with your potential energy, and fried something. Usually, if something like this happens, the motherboard or power supply was fried, so the whole motherboard would have to be replaced. You might be able to take the battery out, AC out, and hold the power button to try and suck out any power that's possibly leftover.

Edit: Hopefully a rep can help more than I can if one comes into the thread.

Alright, it was what I thought it was originally; it was the ribbon wire connecting the motherboard to the board up by the alien head (I don't know the specific name). The copper had started to fray and peel backwards, so I snipped off the fraying bit and reconnected it, and my laptop's running fine now. Nothing shorted out, just a bad wire :)
