Hey everyone. This is my first post here.

    I ordered a m11x R2. I just bought an OCZ Vertex 2 60GB.

Will replacing the harddrive with SSD or adding memory void the warranty ?

PS: I'm pretty good with this stuff. I do server / PC repairs for a living. Watched a youtube vid, seems easy enough.

Does it have any stickers or markers inside that will tell DELL if I opened the laptop ?

Also, anyone have a i7 m11x with equivalent 2nd gen SSD? If so, what is the boot time ?

    Thanks

As far as I know, you are good to replace a HD, but you would need to return the original inside if you ever need to return the laptop to dell.

The HD and memory are both replaceable without impacting your warranty. New components obviously won't be covered by Dell's warranty.

There are threads on the forum where people have benched their SSDs. CrystalDiskMark is the preferred utility for that.

20s to desktop (25s completely loaded) from power on. With a lot of stuff loading (was slightly over 2 mins off the 160gig HD it ships with (with all the same stuff loading). Could probably get it close to 15secs with a lean system.

    RealSSD C300 (256gig)

For comparison, my XT loads the desktop in 29 seconds even with a lot of startup items.

15s?!!! Wow. Ill do a clean install. Wonder if it will get that.
At this sdd speed, maybe the i7 ulv will be the bottleneck lol

No, warranty on the overall system is still valid. Obviously, any warranty or RMA needed on the SSD or memory would have to be handled by you, and not through Dell.

Be sure to keep the original parts, in case you ever need to send the system back for repairs.

No. Repairs are typically done by technicians contracted by Dell, and not directly by Dell. They get paid by work done. Their primary interest is fixing the machine and moving on. It is a waste of time and money for them to try and play "gotcha" with Dell's customers to somehow prove that they should not give warranty service.

Check my sig for a YouTube link. 25 seconds, power button to desktop on an OCZ Agility 1. 17 seconds of OS load time + login time.
