    m11x r2 sata 3?

    im going to get another m11x when they refresh the gpu i was looking at installing an ssd, right now i have the r1 with the samsung ssd but it's not as fast as others as we all know. so i was wondering if the current r2 m11x supports sata 3? and if anyone has any recomendations for ssd's?

    You don't need Sata 3. I think the Crucial C300 is the only SSD that supports Sata 3 and it does benefit from it, but its still plenty fast without it. (Sata is backwards compatible)

    The current crop of Sandforce based OCZ drives are still Sata 2, but they are just as fast if not faster than the Crucial C300. These would be the Vertex LE, Vertex 2, and Vertex 2 Pro (I believe this is the fastest MLC drive out). Other manufactures like Mushkin and I believe Corsair also use the Sandforce controller.

    To answer your question the M11x R2 does not have a SATA 3 controller. As MaxGeek pointed out SATA3 devices are backwards compatible with SATA2. I am currently running a C300in my M11xR2 so I am speaking from experience here! Still plenty fast and performance hit is only noticed in benchmarks.
