I have my m11x AlienFX set so that on battery, the lights are all off (and the permanent lights are dimmed). When do a restart, the lights stay off when the OS comes back up. But when I do a cold re-boot (shut down and turn the computer back on) the lights like default back to all on, full power (not dimmed).

For this reason I have to have alienFX running at startup, because right after I log in (the lights are all on at this point), AlienFX senses that the computer is not plugged in, and turns off all the lights. I have tried disabling AlienFX at startup and the lights came on after a cold reboot. Any thoughts on how to stop this?

tldr; How do I stop my m11x lights (alienFX) from being on after I turn my computer off, then back on?

Sorry if I didn't explain this well. If further explanation is needed, i can try to rephrase the question. Thanks

You are right, AlienFX is indeed the application that is shutting down the lights. It seems the BIOS is defaulted to "full on" (no settings inside for LED control), so you must have AlienFX running... :(

I hope Alienware adds in "default LED state" settings into the m11x BIOS, like the M1210 has BIOS control over LED lights (actually, in the M1210, there is ONLY bios control, lol...).

In your AlienFX options, change all your colors to black. There's two lights which you cannot turn off, it's the power button and something else I forgot (1 and 5, I think). This should keep the lights off on a cold-boot.

The alien head on the back of the LCD, iirc.

is there another way to turn all the LEDs off besides using the application?

There's no way to turn them off other than using the application, Wattos AlienFXLite may work(I know it works on the m15/17x but not sure on the m11x) but you're still using a program to do that so it doesn't really make a difference there. If you want them off the best bet you have is to turn them to black and disable the program in startup through msconfig.

If mine is on battery, when I log in, the lights will turn off once it's loaded up. If it's really that big of a deal, just disable the lighting.

    Couple of additional options here...

    1. Use the Go Dark Feature

    2. Edit the .xml theme file and change all lighting zones you do not want active to '#FF000000'

    notes:
the start of each color, 'FF' is for transparency. So, if using all black, this can be left as is. If using a color, you can play around with the transparency.

theme files are located in your " Documents\AlienFX\Themes" directory. use an xml editor or windows notepad to edit. I prefer notepad++ for all my code editing. Notepad++ | 5.8.4
