Hey, I was at my local futureshop and they had a m11x r1 for 499.99. It was open box but looked like it was in good condition. Is this still a good laptop compared to what is out now for that size? It seems like this beast can still outperform many of the smaller notebooks/netbooks in 2011 especially for 499.

if it overclocks to 1.6ghz and you can deal with tweaking it a little, why not? whats the warranty? I have a R1 that I bought last april, for $480. They are great performers for the price. I wanted more performance though so I pin moded mine to 1.9ghz, and added a bigger hard drive and more RAM.

It all depends what you want it for, what do you expect from it? I use it for portability with some light gaming on the side.

i still love mine and dont plan on upgrading any time soon.

for the $500 price point your not going to find any competition for the M11x and what it can do.

if you dont play PC games then you might find something else with a better CPU for cheaper. but if you do game then its the best choice IMO considering the switchable Gfx and battery life.

    hope that helps :)

For $500? Take it. When I switched from my MBP to my m11x, it was a CPU downgrade from 2.4-1.6, a screensize downgrade from 15.4-11.6, but a GPU upgrade from Nvidia 9600 to 335.

I've never looked back. I'm tempted to get one for the wife. She has an Inspiron 101z (same screen size) and she said she wishes she had a backlit keyboard.

I'd say get it. I picked mine up when they first came out and haven't looked back. It was my first Alienware and I loved it. Hell I still do. It does everything I expect it to do and more, plus it can still play most of the games I like at low-medium settings while getting 4-5 hours of battery life when not playing.
