get the i5, the performance compared to the i7 is neglegable for the 200 extra bucks they want for it. i5 all day!

the difference between i5 version and i7 version after configure is 150 difference, but i7 comes with a free mouse, better processor and more ram.

yes but in terms of actual performance difference the i7 only has 300mhz turboboost more cpu power than the i5, a neglegable difference when the most importiant part is the gpu which is the same for both. Oh and the "2gb" version on the 540m? dont bother with it, it's just another ploy the 540m isnt strong enough to make use of the 2gb's

For gaming, the CPUs would be about the same, but for any processor intensive tasks, the i7 would be superior. I got an i7 for mine purely because I was going to stick a database on it and do dev work. That having been said, nothing else was upgraded as for the same price of going from 2GB standard to 4GB of RAM, you can pick up 8GB of branded stuff, ditto with the HDD.

Maybe in this case by a bit but in terms of actual real world fps difference? It's just not worth 200 bucks, it will give about 2-5 more fps than the i5. Maybe.
