M11x su4100, 2 gb ram, 250gb 7200rpm for £560 or wait to see what alienware have in store at e3.

RAM and hard drive can always be upgraded to 4/8gb and ssd in time. My only reservation is the inability to upgrade processor, i would love an i7 but the price will probably scare me.

Thanks for your thoughts on thjis in advance

I'd suggest waiting, it's not that far off from the announcement.

depends on how much are you willing to spend, if you can get it cheap now, then get it. They're going to phase out those cpus and jump the price up again. + more on the upgrades.

If a retailer is selling it, you wouldn't mind sharing?

    Thanks

For that price you'd be more than lucky to get another laptop with a low tier dedicated graphics card.. £560 for a bona-fide gaming laptop is ridiculously low price. There's no evidence that the R1 will utilize an i7 chip or even have it as an option.. either way, expect to pay almost twice as much for what i can only see as an incremental upgrade.

The new model is likely to cost close to £1000 over here in the UK, and you'll probably want to have a read of Intel Ultra Thin: CULV Arrandale Boosts Performance and Reduces Size - AnandTech :: Your Source for Hardware Analysis and News

Only the two quickest options - Core i5-540UM - Core i7-660UM - are actually quicker than the current M11X's Core2Duo chip in Overclocked mode - so you'll probably need to pay an additional fee ontop of the base price for either of those.

If you can pick up the current model for £560, then it's a no-brainer - go for it.

you could even sell that £560 model for a little more if the i7 ones come out and you really want it. e3 is mere days away, and if it's a retailer you could hold them to their 28 day unopened returns policy.

    £560... wow

Cheers for replies, laptop is from a refurbishment company called nbc. They dont however cover physical damage under their warranties which is a little worrying with regards to the hinge issues etc which have been reported on the m11x.

Bought for £530 comes with 1 year warranty. They have over 20 in stock. You can use the code EMDRCT5 to get 5% off from their website. I paid by paypal e cheques so should't arrive till about 15th which will also allow me to return it for refund if alienware drop a bomb at e3. So can't complain about the deal at all.

dell should cover it - there should be a good 9 months left of the dell standard warranty if it continued on from whoever first owned the laptop. you can enter the service tag on the dell website to check.

whatever happens to the hinges, dell should repair it
