Anyone know a dc adapter (I.e. cigarette lighter plug) which works with the m11x? I checked with Targus and Kingston I think and they didn't know which type would work with the m11x and their adapters.

You can by a adapter from autozone that fits in to the cigarette lighter and then you plug the m11x into that.

Well Best Buy sells a plug that plugs into the cigarette lighter and the other end has a 3 prong plug you can plug the M11x charger into

OP said hes not looking to use an inverter but a proper DC/DC converter unit. when I get home I will look at the tip and see if I can find a tip that is compatable. most laptops use one of 9 different DC tips

Exactly. I'm assuming it uses a common tip but I wanted to verify before I bought an adapter.

Thanks crazycanuk. I look forward to your follow up post.

Do you have a link? The only one I found was an AC charger.

I have a Targus 90W AC/DC Universal Wall/Auto/Dual Laptop Charger, model APM62. Using tip S35 Rev. A seems to work with my M11x R2 (it shows it's on power and does charge the battery, but I haven't tried to game with it). That tip came with the adapter when I bought it, but they seem to have a newer model of that adapter out, so I can't say for certain it still does.

You need one of these. This is a DC (car) only version, and it so incredibly small, it's got the same footprint as a business card, and weighs next to nothing. There is also a 120W version that is identical in size. How do they do it?? :)

It comes with many tips, but you only need the N19 (Dell) tip. You can also charge other devices, you just need the correct tip.

The nice thing about the Alienware M11x is that it is compatible with any adapter that works with any Dell Inspiron, Latitude, or Precision laptops. And there are a LOT of adapters.

I have used AC/automobile/airplane adapters before from iGo Power, Kensington, and Dell. They all pretty much do the same thing - the only difference is going to be weight and size.

I currently use a Duracell AC/auto/air adapter. The nice part about it is that it has a built-in USB port on the charger, so that you can charge your cell phone (or Logitech Performance MX mouse) at the same time.
