So i was just wondering, is the bluetooth worth it. I mean really, how much do you actually use it?
-
Wow. Depends. If using iphone maybe not so much (stupid apple).
I snap a lot of phone pics and before getting iphone used to come back home and do a "select all" and send by BT to laptop. Sits there in a Q and I go get a drink, pet the dog, read email, etc. This will change with wifi sync which is faster.
I also have a BT mouse I use and this is really #1. I dislike using up a USB port for just a mouse so this has been great (If I could have picked up an affordable BT headset for work I would have also).
BT also allows for file sharing with other phones or PCs without wifi etc. This rarely happens but it has a few times over the years.
"Worth" is hard to judge but I use it. -
Ok thanks. Do you know if you can install it separately on the computer yourself if you didn't order it with it?
-
Yea you can add it later, but its a bit of a job... not nearly the 5 minute install on my old del inspiron, you have to disassemble almost everything to get to it. If you think you may need it, I'd sure buy it factory, its not that expensive...

Agree with Mike. I added to my E1705 and it was EASY.
In the M11x it uses a funky connector and it needs to be sized appropriately. You could possibly by from someone else if it says "for" M11x. You can also add a cheap BT USB device but the savings are not worth it imo. -
I wish my r1 had bluetooth, I was thinking about connecting my ps3 controller to it and playing games using the controller via bluetooth.
I think I might just try it via usb and see how that goes -
I use bluetooth mostly for my bt mouse, headphone and from time to time, wiimote. I guess it just depends on your use.
-
Its worth it. It is only a $20 dollar upgrade. Once you use a bluetooth mouse you will never want to use a wired mouse again.
-
I got it on my m11x, but dont use it much. Its nice to have when doing remote diagnostics on automotive scan tools at my work though.
-
This is one of those things where you have to decide if the $20 is worth the risk of having to go through the significant effort of dismantling your m11x if you change your mind.
I regretted not getting it on my mini 10v, and it looks like such a pain to fix it, that I just put in a dongle. -
On the m11x its not too hard to get to.
remove battery, remove keyboard. take out the long screws that hold the palm rest down. Its right there on the left side of the mobo. -
i dont use it much but if its not going to break the bank why not get it? beats a 30min tear-down and install for basically the same price later. right?
beside if you dont use it you could disable it in the Bios or sell it on ebay. -
I have use it like 5 times in about a year and a half and it sucks. Is not worth the 20 dllrs
-
I would like to know if anyone bought it after their original purchase and then installed it. Did they have to purchase the screw for it or was it already on the motherboard when they went to install the bluetooth module.
-
You need to get a screw for it as it wont come with a screw.
-
I use the bluetooth all the time I have a bluetooth sounds system (by parrot) audio is great, but the receptin sucks. I also have a sony bluetooth receiver downstairs hooked up to my bigger sound system. I found the stock bluetooth is crappy (or bad drivers), I bought a USB dongle from cirago and the audio quality is far superior. No clue why though. I really wanted to use the internal since I'm limited on USB ports on this laptop.

I installed my bluetooth module today. And no there was no screw already in the computer so it was good that I ordered one. They could not just sell me one screw I had to order 6 for $11 dollars. Oh well I am glad I got my bluetooth mouse is working, for I can not live without it.
