So I did a little searching and I have seen a few places where people are talking about issues with hooking their m11x up to a monitor. But I never really saw if anyone was able to resolve the issues.

I just got my m11x R2 a couple of days ago. I also got a Dell ST2010 monitor. The monitor seems to only have 2 ways to hook up -- D-SUB (this is where the VGA cable would go?) or HDMI.

I am absolutely NOT a techie. I know NOTHING about this stuff really. I just love to play vid games.

All I knew to do was take a 3 ft. HDMI cable & hook it up from my monitor to my m11x, since I saw nowhere to hook the VGA cable up to it (on the m11x).

Well when I do this I get the same issues I've read about others having. If I play World of Warcraft on the m11x main screen, I get about 60 fps in Dalaran. But when I play it through the monitor, I am getting about 15 fps. I really is just unplayable.

So...can someone help me here? What are my options?

Now that I've received this unit, I am seeing a port on the side called a "displayport" (labeled with a 'P'). If I were to get one of these adapters, would it fix my problem?

Or...is my only real option returning the m11x and getting a m15x or something?...something with a VGA output?

All i can say is that I hook up my m11x R2 to the 50" 1080p screen at work and it works great for gaming and videos.

You shouldn't be having any problems with hdmi out, and switching to DisplayPort is unlikely to fix that.

Are you running the same resolution on the tv as on the laptop's screen? If you're running a higher resolution, there will necessarily be a drop in fps.

To be honest, it doesn't seem to matter what resolution I put it at...it simply is not playable.

    So what I'm wondering is...

I saw in the thread here that they mentioned something about shutting off Alienware's primary display when using an external display source. Do you think that would help? If so, how would I go about doing that?

I just wonder one thing. I try plug m11x to 24 inches monitor via HDMI port and choose to shut off m11x monitor by press fn+F1 until it shows HDMI icon only and leave the lid close. It works just fine for me except the part that whenever I open the lid, m11x screen automatically turn itself up and also reduce the resolution of monitor to 1366x768. Any idea how not to let this happen since I just open the lid only to turn on/off laptop?

I have no idea, I have used clone display (same inboth screens) extended display and just the HDTV for display, and it works the same in all, works fine...

Sure,in games like Bioshock, in the resolution of the m11x I get 55 to 65 fps, while in 1080p I get 30-40 fps, but works perfect...

Maybe when you switch to the external the game plays fromthe integrated card, or it could be the drivers (I use the official latests drivers for both cards)

Is there anything related to how not to make the built-it screen turn on by itself when I close laptop lid and open it again?

    That's the R1.

On the R2, all external outputs are linked only to the Intel IGP, part of how Optimus works.
