    Hi Guys,

I've been searching around for a solution for this for a while now, but had no luck.

My m11x R2 has been displaying some horizontal lines intermittently for some time now. It only occurs when the screen is idle.

    m11x r2 screen fault photo.jpg

Refreshing the screen clears the lines as does anything that makes the image change where the lines exist. They do not show up on a print screen.

Dell have since replaced my Screen and Mobo under warranty.

I have uninstalled the graphics drivers, cleaned the registry and reinstalled all the latest drivers.

    None of this has worked.

Dell service guys don't know what the issue is.

The person I have been dealing with from Dell has heard of one other case where this has occurred on an m11x.

Any suggestions? Anybody come across this before?

    Cheers,

    Beefy

I have seen that on the XPS 1330, it turned out to be the ggraphics card on it's way out. Didn't seem to matter what the laptop was doing when they appeared and sometimes just rebooting made it go away, until the point where the card just burned out completely. took a couple of calls be for I got a Dell rep that would send out a Tech, but once convinced it was repaired in 2 days.

Usually that's a sign of your graphics card slowly dying out. Seen that way too many times.
The only thing that does strike as odd is that it only appears while idle - you Oc'd or anything like that which would mean the computer "throttles itself down" to save power etc?

Though saying that, a replacement mobo should have sorted it, unless that was equally faulty/the tech buggered it up.

I really hope they fix this. Last time I placed a call about my broken hinges, they put up a fight and said it was my fault -_- They might even pull the "minor problem" card and say it doesn't interfere with anything. If they do that, I'm gonna scream

This is interesting as I have had my R2 since March and it has always had this issue. I even reloaded a fresh Win 7 load and it made no difference. There link above says, near the bottom, that if it occurs only on the R2 LCD and not an external it is likely to be the LCD and in my case, it does not occur on the external monitor so therefore, it is more likely to be the LCD or connection to it on the R2 itself.

Has anyone else managed to get a Dell fix for this?

Called dell, and they had me reinstall my driver to the factory version, also they had me update my bios to the latest version. They said they would call back tomorrow in case the problem wasn't fixed, then they would he would help my get a new mother board...well It isn't fixed so hopefully a new mother board will be installed in the near future

This is a repost that I wrote on another thread, so bear with me. I think it's worth knowing though...

    "Called Dell, and they said:

    1) "Go back to the stock BIOS and drivers." I told them I did that already, and I still had the problem.

    2) "Check if it happens on other screens." I told them that the problem also showed up on my tv when connected via HDMI.

    3) They then said the problem was likely with something connected to the motherboard. They said faulty RAM is possible because it's only seen when the laptop wakes from sleep mode. They also said it could be either the integrated or dedicated graphics because power goes through all the parts when a laptop is woken from sleep(?). They said it could also be the hard drive since it's a year old and it's a HDD, not an SSD.

I dunno if that's true, since the guy's tech support, not an actual technician... but they said they'll order a motherboard for me. If that doesn't work, they'll send RAM, and then a hard drive. I listed my preferences in that order."

I have the same problem. I think it's time to get it repaired, but i am living currently in Germany and brought the laptop with me from the states. Is there an international warranty on it?

I logged a call yesterday with dell and an engineer is on his way with a new LCD. I personally think (not that what I think means anything) it is more likely to be a motherboard issue or a connection (to the display) issue. I'll keep you posted.
