I'm thinking about grabbin another m11x r1, i had a lunar shadow m11x before but sold it due to financial reasons but i'm blessed to pick up another one, but before i pull the trigger, one thing that annoyed me with the m11x r1 is the fan kicking in full speed even after switching it back to integrated gpu. Also the fan even when on idle running on Integrated GPU, the fan will just come on for unknown reason like it has a mind of its own.

Anyway just wanted to know if Alienware fixed this abnormal fan issue

    Thanks

I believe they fixed/addressed this issue with the latest bios update. I personally haven't experienced it.

I'd be so bold to say M11xR1 and the fan(and also temperature) is not an issue.

Some people had problems with this and also the fan becoming 'locked' on and not stopping even when minimal temperature was reached.

With the 'new' BIOS A05 for the M11xR1 these problems have been resolved.

The temperature thresholds were raised slightly and thus allowing a minimum temperature level to be reached where the fan disengages.

There may be some conditions on different Nvidia driver versions which allow the fan to 'idle' for approx 10-15 minutes after switching from discrete GPU but that's not a problem. It's just cause the Nvidia driver remains resident for that time before it times out after being switched off.

I have a new Nvidia driver and it's instant. The Nvidia driver is removed from the device list the moment you switch it off.

For 99% of M11xR1 owners CPU temperature never gets above 50C and GPU temperature doesn't get much above 60C.

The M11xR1 is defiantly not adding to global warming.

The only real down side of an M11xR1 it updating the Nvidia driver SHOULD you REALLY need to.

This is really only the case if your game/application is 'patched' within a Nvidia update or a marked feature improvement is added. In which case finding a hybrid Nvidia driver for that version will be a right pain.

Yes, you can just go discrete in the BIOS, but I paid for big switch button thingy and so I want to be able to use it.

Now back to the vibrate sounds of 1920s Jazz from the Internet via HDMI onto my sound system. Flappers aye, what are they like. :D

Oh, yes been listening to Internet music using Winamp for over two hours now and there's not any breakup of the sound via the M11xR1 at all. All good. Not that I've ever had any problems with Realtek HD Audio anyway.

Thanks both of you, i'm glad the abnormal fan running has been fixed by the bios update, right now i can grab the m11x r1 with the black friday deal starting configuration of $599.

I'm also considering the m11x r2 999.99 deal with the i5 cpu 500gb, but i don't know which one to get.

I would suspect this being so it can cool off the nVidia card. Sometimes my fan will kick on on integrated even though it's only 29C which is a little weird.

Wait are you telling me that the Bios A05 update didn't fix it? Are you sure the fan will just come on and start spinning even on integrated graphics at 29c? If yes then that's no good

I need more verification on this because the other 2 guys above said it was already fixed
