Due to some screw stripping issues I had to send my m11x to Dell, and they just shipped it back to me ... apparently with a new motherboard (among other things). One of the things I've noticed, however, is that when the laptop boots up I don't get the boot screen with the alienware logo anymore - its just some generic screen that flashes off too quickly for me to read. How do I get the boot screen back? Just to reiterate, I am talking about the screen that has the big alienware head and the push F2 for this and F12 for that ... not that login screen and its associated alienware graphics (I already know how to modify that).

Also, is there a way check if the A03 BIOS are installed? Does the BIOS installer check automatically before flashing?

And finally: Is the i7 processor soldered onto the motherboard? If so, since they replaced the board, does this mean I get a new processor? I couldn't get a stable overclock on my old one after a few months had passed, so if there is a new one ... :)

Not sure on your main question. To check which version of BIOS, press the F2 on startup to enter BIOS, on the first page (MAIN) about 5 lines down it will tell you the BIOS Version.

Yes the CPU is part of the motherboard, so give it another shot, and Good Luck, hopefully you'll have better luck overclocking this one. :)

There's often an option in the BIOS to display the logo screen... Try pressing F2 anyway, I'm sure you'll enter the setup.

From the you can check the ver. Alternatively the installer will exit if you have the latest version already.

To my knowledge no CPUs are ever soldered to a motherboard? I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Just found this - Many laptops employ surface mount CPUs soldered to the motherboad, which are non-replaceable. Although some do differ...

Thanks! I checked that at first but glossed right over that line. They gave me A00 so I have to reinstall A03 ... boo. :p

I guess I'll try contacting alienware for the main question. Good news about the CPU though!
