You would have to hard mod, saw etc the bottom, which would void your warranty.

Unless one could get there hands on another bottom cover.

But then soldering in a connector would be the problem. Maybe rig an easy to remove batt. hatch in the second bottom cover. Can't imagine it being worth the trouble though.

Do you actually have a situation where you need to frequently switch batteries? Or is this just a nice-to-have project that you're asking about?

I have been travelling for work for the past 8 years, and have always had spare laptop batteries with me so that I can watch movies or do work on airplanes (especially long international flights). In 8 years, I have only ever swapped batteries about a dozen times... and that was using laptops where the battery life was 2:30 - 3:00 at best. Any airplane I have ever flown on that has flight times >4 hours has in-seat power, even in coach class.

Unless you have a specific need or are in a specific situation where you actually NEED to frequently swap batteries, I would not go through the trouble of hard-modding your laptop with a hacksaw and soldering iron. If it were me, I'd just bring a small screwdriver with me. The screws in the M11x use retention clips, so you won't ever lose or drop them anyway.

You could alternatively get an external battery that works via the power port.

I have an Energizer XP8000, which worked fully on the R1, and kind of works on the R2. On the R2 it shows as "plugged in, not charging", so it seems to still power the laptop without charging the internal battery.

This might be a better choice for the R2: http://www.energizerpowerpacks.com/vn/products/xp18000/

It's probably more worth your time to just sell it on ebay. You won't get much for it, but if it's in good shape and still holds a charge, you might get a few bucks for it.
