I just ordered this thing because of the great $550 deal, now reading the hinge issues Im wondering if this was a mistake.... this is a laptop dream come true for me, great batterylife, portability, gaming performance, and all for a low price.

now im starting to have buyers remorse thinking that I made a mistake on this one, that i should of gotten a $800 laptop instead, all because of these reported hinge issues.

now my question: does anyone think dell is going to fix this before my warrenty runs out? (1 year) and if not, did i buy something that is going to be worthless after my warrenty runs out? I really dont like the feeling of this, its my first laptop, and I want it to be a good experience.

You're fine, the hinge issue is like a lemon car, it is hit an miss and only happens to a small percentage of laptops. As long as you don't abuse the laptop you should be fine, I've had both an R1 and R2 m11x and never had a single hinge issue at all. The only thing I would recommend is a 2-4 year warranty depending on how long you want to keep it and you should be just fine. Welcome to the horde! :D

so you say the hinge issue isn't bad, but you still recommend the longer warranty, why is that?

Because by the time your warranty is up(2-4 year), you will be ready for the newest version of the laptop and it wont matter beyond that.

I recommend the warranty because there is a hinge issue it's just not a widespread, every m11x has it type of a problem and it's better to be safe than sorry. Call alienware, if you just bought the laptop they will usually give it to you cheaper now rather than later but it can be upgraded anytime before the warranty expires.

i am about to cancel this, unless someone says to stop, because for around $180 more (warranty) I could get a better laptop (asus, 3 year warranty in all laptops), and without the worry of this, about to do this...

Stop. lol. (j/k). Look, the bottom line here is its something you have to decide for yourself. If you want to cancel and go with something else, then do so. Only you can make that decision. There are multiple reports of folks that have no hinge problems and are completely satisfied. I own an R1 and love having it for when I am on the go.

Its all up to you. Enjoy - whatever you decide to do. That being said, I am closing this thread as we have threads in place where this can be discussed - both the positive as well as the negative reports.
