How are you testing FPS? Are you using the internal benchmark or just by playing in an online game?

I just wanted to say that I was going to post something about this very issue.

I have an i7 R2, and I am using the beta drivers from Nvidia 258.69. (actually it looks like there are new offical drivers released today, but they have the same version number so im not sure if they are any different from the beta.)

When I was playing a dust 2 game yesterday with 20+ players. The fps would start out great... between 60-100+. Throughout the match, probably every 3-5 minutes performance would take a hit. A few rounds in, the frame rates range from 40-mid 55s, and by the end of a match (15-20 minutes) the fps would drop to just low 20s to 30s fps. Once it hits 20s you can definitely notice a significant difference in the ability to play.

I figured maybe the GPU was throttling so I changed the power profile to high performance. It didn't make a difference. Then I tried powermizer manager, and set the GPU always to max performance. It didn't help either. However, I didnt disable the overheat protection feature so I am not sure if heat is throttling the GPU or not... I hope not!

It does tend to do this but IMO just run cs with Vsync on, that was my solution. I play in a server thats usually 24-32 players with a very very big mod (Zombie plague 4.3) and without vsync I was dropping to really really horrible framerates. With vsync it keeps it at 60 throughout and after a while it does drop to 30 but I don't really mind as it's understandable from the mod I use. Without the servers modded I never drop below 60 with Vsync. You can't really tell the difference from 60+ In counter-strike 1.6 anyway, so there really are no benefits from having it off. If anything it runs alot smoother.
