I've been using CoreAVC for mkv and ffdshow for other things under Media player classic.

However I get horizontal line artifacts every now and then. Anyone have a working configuration? Should I just retry cccpc again. :/

cccp has taken big strides. It's the only thing I install, works excellently, no artifacts.

Is Aero disabled or enabled? You can check by pressing Windows Key + Tab. If Aero is enabled, there will be a 3D Flip of windows.

The easiest way to get rid of 'horizontal line artifacts' is to enable Aero, but if you have more than one monitor being used then you will want to disable Aero unless the refresh rates of both monitors is the same.

If you have and want Aero disabled, then you can try the following video renders (instructions here):
    Overlay Mixer
    VMR7 (windowed)
    EVR-Custom Pres.
(if you want to use EVR-Custom Pres with Aero disabled, also do the following: View-> Renderer-> Reset-> Optimal)
    madVR
(very good video quality, but probably not noticeable on small screen and will suck up battery life or perhaps lag with the Intel GPU)

I indeed had Aero disabled. Did not know it effected video stability. I only remembered the Vista days and how much resources it would hog; so I had it disabled.

So, did you just re-enable Aero?

Installed CCCP. Enabled Aero, and used EVR-custom under mpc

CoreAVC has a new version available - 2.5.1
Has DXVA support for ATi cards now (but doesn't work on my 5870!)
Cuda support for nVidia is still there also.

CoreAVC is decent but if you just let FFDShow do the processing and add on a little sharpening + upscaling it looks very nice and will use around 40% CPU (If HD, less if not). Have a play and see which is best on battery life CPU or GPU. CPU has the best quality I find.
