i've just received my m11x r3, first alienware machine i've had and im sure i've seen a video showing lights come up on the bottom to show the battery status, how do you do this as nothing seems to be happening for me so im hoping im just doing it wrong rather than faulty unit

You just need to press the Battery Icon in order to check your battery level.
If it doesn't work... Well it's not much of a big deal from my point of view but you can ask for new battery if that is the case.

Just push the battery icon as though it's a button, you should feel it push in slightly. The dots will then light up indicating the charge status.

If this doesn't work turn the laptop on and check the charge on the taskbar. If it is nearly full your indicator is probably faulty. In any case fully charge the battery and if the indicator still doesn't work it is definitely faulty.

ok its faulty then, also got a power cable that didn't fit so not off to the best start

oh wait scratch that, looks like you have to press it pretty hard, i thought it was a hard surface so didn't want to bend it, one less thing to worry about then

Power cable that doesn't fit?!?! That is very sad...
I am very surprised as it didn't happen for my M11x R2. It is pretty unfortunate for you.
Hope you resolve your issues as soon as possible and enjoy your laptop.

yea the cloverleaf mains cable that plugs into the power brick doesn't fit, seems like it is made for something thinner, luckily the machine come with a full charge so i can run it in for a bit

I think when I sell my R2 I will keep the flatter power adapter.
