That means that you have worn the battery. Its common over time. How long have you had your laptop? Everytime the battery drains there is minute levels of wear.

I bought it brand new from dell's website. Maybe its because I've been using it on battery most of the time? but then again thats why I bought the m11x for...its great battery life.

Well over one year you can expect 3-6% wear (that's what I got on my R1). It might have just been like that. If you notice its going down too fast you can always call it in. The Li-ion batteries wear out faster when they discharge (especially when they discharge past 40%). Over charging shouldn't be a problem.

you should expect a little bit of " bed in " as the battery gets used to being used, you will lose a little bit, but to be honest its not much to worry about, i have had mine for 8 months now and i have 63,000 capacity and 2% wear

Yeah keeping it plugged it won't wear it out. Discharging them would do that.

Yeah.. I'll second DeeVu. I use my r2 daily, mostly unplugged, and the battery wear is closer to 9% now that I use is for 6 months.

Mine is at 58% wear now! It's about 15 months old. I can't use it unplugged anymore, it just shuts off. I've called for a new battery but they haven't got any in stock.

Same thing is happening to mine at about 11 months ownership, battery bar says something like 60% wear and won't stay on battery for more than an hour.

wow.. to those with more than 15% wear, can you describe the way you're using your machines? I thought I'm worst with an average of 2 charging cycles a day.

oh man... i feel bad for you guys :(

also today a tech came to change my hinges...but the tech did not know anything about the m11x and made everything far worse...it doesnt sit flat on a level surface anymore, theres a gap now when i close my lid and my keyboard bulges on one side D:

Make sure that the screws on the bottom plate are screwed in properly. There's likely one that isn't. If that's the case then back it out (carefully!) and then gently screw it back in properly.

On the side of the keyboard that is bulging, is it on the far end? If so then it wasn't clipped back into place properly. Gently but firmly press down along the edge until it clips back into place.

I called them and talked to a manager of the technical service here in norway and he said that they will try to get me a new system because its been past 2 weeks. Anything after "not" replacable with a new unit ( but i call bs).

Frankly I didnt order an m11x thats 3 weeks old to have all of the parts replaced with a technician who took 40 mins or so to take figure out how to remove the hinge.

OH and to stay on topic I keep my battery plugged in all the time when I'm home now. and Jozeconzeta how are you able to disable the charging at 40%?

I got a new Alienware M11x less than one month ago and I already have 6.2% lost in battery capacity...

Ok, I have used 50% of the time the laptop unplugged but still, is this normal?

    Thanks

Every battery is different but using it unplugged will decrease the life of it more than leaving it plugged in or not charging at all.

Well, if you're using it for playing games unplugged, while oc'ed..and keep charge cycling when the system temperature is high, it's not uncommon.. but otherwise it may worth looking.

So dell agreed to replace my system. But I noticed one thing theyre giving me an I-3 instead of the su7300, how does the two compare? Since i know that the i3 doesnt have the overclock feature...

and one more thing will the battery life be comparable?

I have also noticed my m11x R1 battery has very quickly failed, it seemed to be OK for around 6 months and I'm careful not to fully discharge the laptop battery and for some reason this cell seems to have failed very quickly after 6 months. Am getting 2 hours if I'm lucky yet have older laptops (M6400, mini 9's and XPS1710) all on original batteries and all older than the m11x which are in better condition.

My very simple view now is there is a clear fault with the M11x battery which is causing them to fail prematurely. This coupled with the high price of alienware units is making me decide to now avoid dell (heck every computer I have is a dell and I'm now going to move to apple - god forbid!!!)

there is nothing I can do except change companies - I find I don't really have time to game anymore while travelling so need good battery life. Tis a pity I enjoyed the m11x but after having the screen break and now battery failing + the SD card reader not working I'm crossing these off my list.

with zero proof I guess the I3 to be same perf as su7300 or close enough for gaming not to notice.
