my m11x came back again from repairs (the battery was fine, but they replaced it anyway). so i came home and didn't really pay attention, but noticed my keyboard was the only thing lighting up. so i went to alienfx, and it was supposed to be lighting up all the zones. (even the wifi status lights aren't working)

i couldn't get any other zone to light up.

as well as this, there's a huge amount of flex along the far left of the keyboard, the edge with the "tab, caps lock, shift and ctrl" key are all raised a little and with a little pressure (like you would use when using the wasd keys) you can feel the flex and see it, too.

if you can just make out, the edges of the edge keys shouldn't stick above the edge of the chassis.

it's kinda annoying, since my macbook (which was once my main laptop) was stolen, hence why i have this one, and my secondary laptop's charge socket is broken, and my main desktop is awaiting some new components :(

I'd take it apart and see if the cables are seated correctly and if they aligned the keyboard right.

Sounds like they did a bit of a sloppy job with the reassembly

is there much dismantling to be done? i've never dismantled a laptop with the intention of putting it back together again.

There are guides around, but if you are uncomfortable with it you can always call alienware and ask them to send a service tech to your house

It isnt bad... 1 top cover bit, kb screws, and several screws under bottom cover.

My kb was sticking up in the CTRL corner also after servicing and it was just a matter of getting kb to clip in under the tabs properly.
