Hi, I'm currently typing this thread on an Alienware M17x in SLI....blah blah blah, but I've sold this system and I'm using it one last time while I transfer personal data to my netbook.

Here's the deal. I bought the M17x just before deploying to Afghanistan. Realizing that this system was way too big and expensive to tote with me, it stayed home. Once I arrived home, I realized that it's too big to take anywhere, not to mention it needs its own nuclear power station.

I do not play games, but I love the new chassis style. Do you feel the M11x - R2 is a worthy purchase for graphics quality, speed, and battery life?

I plan to use this mainly for email, some web developement, and connecting to a 50" plasma for entertainment/Google Earth trip planning.

    I'm looking at 4 gig mem, 320 HDD, and i7...maybe i5.

Any input you have will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Well if you're not playing too heavy video games, why not?
    M11x is worth your money.

I had the R1 until yesterday and I loved it. A performance laptop in a netbook form factor.

It doesnt get hot when you're not using graphic extensive applications and battery life is 6.5 hrs as tested on the R1. (It doesnt get hot that much)

the only thing that you need to be careful about are the hinges.

overall its got a good build and awesome functionality.
    Hope that helps.

If you do not want to play games there could be other notebooks which are lighter and and less expensive which have good CPUs. As of now the m11x is unique because of the ability to play games. What else do you plan to use the laptop for?

    Thank you...

I do a lot of "outback" travelling in my 4x4, so I spend a lot of time on YouTube and Google Earth planning these trips (hence hooking up to the big screen). Otherwise, I plan to do some web development for a business I'm creating, so I'm not sure if the screen will be too small for that.

I really do not want to repurchase another laptop. The M17x is a bit overkill for what I do, but not sure if the M11x is too small.

My bet is that he traded in his R1 for an R2.

There is no reason to get R1 if you can afford R2. That said, for your type of usage, most core i5/i7 notebook with 13-14" screen probably fit you better and probably cheaper too.

Funny you should say that. My "other" favorite laptop I wish I had not sold was a Dell XPS M1330. Very portable and usable...perfect laptop. I got rid of it after I purchased the M17x...mistake.

Having a good graphics card in your laptop is never a bad thing for YouTube vids and google maps... Especially if you like the design and led lights :) That said the only thing I would be concerned about is the screen size which I've never really seen in person so can't really help you out there. Considering you had the M17x I doubt the slight premium price of the M11x will be a turn off.
