Wow! I never thought I'd say this, but this never ending Optimus Punkbuster bug on BFBC2 got me to admit...

That I'm suddenly thankful for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's servers!

No PB! So no PB issues whatsoever!

I don't care if there's cheaters, I can play the game without getting kicked out.

It's definitely numbing this PB/Optimus BFBC2 pain

My hopes of this ever getting fixed are pretty much null now, the way PB and Nvidia are pointing fingers at the other for the solution.

If the R3 of the m11x doesn't have a dedicated gaming GPU, with no switchable whatever, I'm not buying it.

This bug makes this machine half useless.

Oh well, back to MW2. So pretty, and it blazes on this machine.

Best of all - NO PUNKBUSTER!

Wow, who would have thought, the MW2 server debacle actually comes out ahead in this situation?

 

I agree 100 percent .. optimus needs serious driver help.. and punkbuster needs to start communicating with it's customers and vendors.

And it's not like punkbuster is keeping the hackers out anyway. I was on a server earlier, conquest, the other team had 6 people that were 40+ kills and less than 5 deaths. Nope, im sure they were just good... yeah right. This game is broken on so many levels. Some days I dont know why I play.

(back to optimus) That's why I am thinking about a 15x next if I get another alienware.

What issues are you having? becuase BC2 works fine for me. I just had to manually set up the gpu. As in turn it on myself, and it works just fine. but u have to make the global settings use the GPU. then change them back afterwards.

Of course anyone that does good cheats. My score is sometimes up there (in MW2, and bc2) and all people scream is hacker, and cheat. And yes i have had a 30 kills streak in mw2, and in bc2 a score of 40-5. That doesnt mean i cheat.
Join a good server that streams PB bans, and you should have no problem. I have yet to run into a hacker on BC2 in the servers i play in exclusively. They are constantly banned before they get into the server. search for [DAGL] servers, (the conquest one). im on there a lot. If you want, ill post a few servers that stream PB.

 

What's the point of Optimus if you have to set it manually just to play BC2 I think Nvidia/Punkbuster should fix this issue and listen to their users.

@MLM - Thanks. I am up for any servers that kick cheaters and encourage good play. The only issue I have is that if folks are 40+ and less than 5 deaths, are they really helping their team win or are they camping? On a map last night, I was getting scathed by the other team for my 4/13 game (I came in late). However they lost and a huge part of that was me constantly shooting smoke grenades at the camp sites on the hills.. over and over and over... After I reminded them of that, it was pretty quiet. I dont care about k/d.. i want a fun game where 2 teams are actually trying to win. Maybe the squad stuff is better. Never tried the squad rush...

And its pretty easy to tell if folks are cheating/modding. Shoot smoke at them on a server that has spotting disabled, see if they are still getting kills... If so and they are covered completely in smoke, they are texture modding or flat out cheating.

I've worked on several game pvp engines and the question that constantly comes to mind when seeing this kind of behavior is how much gaming reflects real life....just imagine what these people are like out here in the REAL world....give you a hint, the exact same...sad really.

This would be fine OP except for the fact that multiplayer MW2 is nowhere near as good as BFBC2. They're also quite diffrent in play style so it's a little like comparing apples to oranges. Yes optimus is a pain and I miss the simplicity of a dumb switch to toggle the external cards but there exists work-arounds for those who need their multiplayer fix (modified 1.8.x drivers) etc.

Like any new technology, it takes a while for the related and relied upon companies to come around and adapt. It'll get fixed eventually and I'm a little suprised it's taking this long but moving to COD:MW2 is not the answer

It's not the same kind of play, that's for sure. But at least you can play it.

I don't think we're going to see this PB issue fixed during the run of the R1 and R2 the way Nvidia says it's a Evenbalance/PB issue and Evenbalance says it's up to Nvidia to fix it. EA, they're just giving out $20 coupons.

Yea punkbuster is definitly slow to fix these type of issues, I dont ever expect a resolution too it. BF2 still has major issues with PB. And its been a few years.

Definitly feel ya on the cheater thing, If you PM ill send you my steam ID and BC2 name and send you a couple server choices, [DAGL] is straigt up no rules, so spawn camping happens, but not as much as you would think unless all flags are taken (still one of the most fair servers out there). The others I play in are really fair, and if there is a cheater he is removed quickly.

I sadly watch my k/d ratio and work for the best, mainly using rockets lol. But snipers with a 40/5 k/d annoy me too. Most of them wont help take flags, even if there are only 6 people inthe server. And they only care about k/d. it is interesting and i will try shooting smoke at them to test your theory.

Sorry if it seemed like i blew up on ya lol, i get testy when the "hacker" label is loosly thrown out. I get where you are coming from though.

COD 4 had PB and DS and was flawless.

 

That point doesn't make any sense. If you play COD 4:MW now, the same Optimus bug in BFBC2 is in COD 4:MW.

I know because I still play COD 4:MW for the Star Wars mod "Galactic Warfare" and get kicked out for the same bug.

Saying a game was/is perfect when the current technology with the software bug wasn't even created yet, makes absolutely no sense.

You can't play COD 4 MP anymore than you can play BCBF2 on an m11x
So in that regards, it's still - COD: MW2 > COD: MW

If playing on the m11x wasn't the point of contention, then yeah, of course I agree with you.

 

You are sure it is not user error? I have no problems playing cod4 or bfbc2 on my m11x. Have you tried installing pbsetup and updating your pb that way? I have never heard of the "Optimus bug" otherwise I might be able to offer some more help in that.

I know that for a lot of people PB has been a headache here and there, but it usually comes down to the user taking simple steps to resolve the problems.

And really, I bought MW2 the night it came out, and have less then 30 hours into, the worst game I have ever played. Hopefully Cod 7 will be better.

 

It's an Optimus driver issue. It doesn't impact the R1's hybrid driver.

 

Perhaps this is a better way to say it:

If you're an R2 owner and that is your primary/only gaming machine, and an FPS lover, and your main game is BFBC2 MP and you can't play it -

And you still want to enjoy your new machine and what it can do and don't care about score - MW2 looks gorgeous on it, runs blazing fast turned all the way up - and therefore makes a nice "distraction" and showpiece for your R2 until this bug gets fixed.

That's probably a more accurate sentiment.

If worse comes to worse and I have to switch from 189 to 256 and back again everytime I want to play a PB game, it is what it is and I'll do that, but man what an annoyance. That is not going to get fixed.

I understand lots of people want switchable graphics because battery life is important more than gaming, that's cool. But that's what the Asus 13" and Sony Vaio's are for, or even an IPad -

Me? I wanted as powerful as possible gaming machine in an 11-13" form factor and would gladly have traded longer battery life for a dedicated GPU (not to mention a better panel)

Whomever mentioned in one of the threads here that they should've had 2 versions of the m11x, a gamer's version and a "traveler's version", had the right idea.

Let's hope the next refresh will have a more dedicated GPU.

With the holidays coming up and all these new 400 series mobile chips announced from Nvidia, I'd be surprised if there wasn't an R3 available by X-Mas. I think they'll keep the R1 and R2 still and have a tiered system of models.

I would be ecstatic to just be able to switch the integrated HD on and off. Only time I'm not near a power outlet is if I'm on a plane (well I can buy one of the airline adapters as alot of seats have power outlets now) or......................really I'm nowhere where I don't have access to power and my sig. other wouldn't beat the crap out of me for not paying attention to her instead of being on my AW.

 

Towerdefense.net is more fun than mw2, and I hear what you're saying about not caring about scores, even with cheaters I would usually take first place. It is more or less the skill factor that is intensely lacking in the game, either their hacking or they are hiding in some random room with a n00b tube or rpg ready to kill you as you run by. With no mods to control the server that your playing in, it is to much anarchy for me, I prefer structure.

The biggest problem though was with MW2 they completely removed community from the game, I prefer to play with groups of people and against groups of people that are good, I like to get to know the people I play with. MW2 throws you into a game with people that you most likely won't ever see again.

However coming back to the point, PB runs circles around VAC, now considering I have only used VAC for MW2, it has left an extremely disappointing first impression.

PB + Mods > VAC

Might I suggest you try the new MOH, it's graphics surpass MW2 by far, and it has servers.

 

VAC is really good. Its meant for valve games though. It doesnt work well on mw2. I played mw2 a lot. But i dont know why. its so terrible. I went back to counterstrike source afterwards and realized its even far better.

I must say, the things they have done with COD:WAW, amazing. I love modders on dedicated servers lol.
