Earlier, when I was playing with the M11x R3 configurations, I always upgraded the wireless card as I needed to hit the $1459 total to use the coupon, so I figured "why not?". However as the coupon no longer works, I was thinking that if I was to reconfigure a system, how much performance gain do you actually get upgrading the wireless card from the Wireless-N 1000 to the Wireless-N 6250 (assuming I have a router that supports it)? And also, is it worth the extra cost?

I haven't found anything conclusive, but I'm pretty sure it's a range thing. Supposely you get around twice the range with the 6205, and the 6250 is - I'd assume - better again.

The "Wireless-N 1000", is the Intel one?
The 1000, is and old card: Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 – Overview
The 6250 has WiMax and 5GHz (wich is better for noise): Intel® Centrino® Advanced–N + WiMAX 6250 - Overview
Will you use the WiMax? -
my impression was that its not worth it if you are just running regular internet through it, as your bandwidth through your IP isn't as fast as the router is. but if you are setting up a home network and transferring big files wirelessly, then it might be worth it.
