I downloaded the latest drivers for my model from Dell's driver site. The audio is absolutely terrible. There are random clicks, pops and bass is terrible. Sound coming out from the headphones sound terribly compressed or something.

I would really appreciate a solution. Thanks.

As you can tell by my username I especially went out of my way to create this account to answer your random click and pop question.

Getting to the point, there are many forums regarding this issue on various laptops of different brands and builds, I can only speak to my solution (M11x R2, Windows 7 ... for what its worth) which consisted of installing the latest and greatest Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from the Intel website. This stopped the audio problems and eliminated what was noticeable lag at the time as well.

    Two potentially helpful links:

Best of luck, choppy audio was annoying for a really long time

Unfortunately the problem still persists. I reverted back to Windows 7 and the clicks and pops are still here.

Did you delete all partitions before rolling back to windows 7? Taking into account it was previously working fine in Windows 7 it's most likely related to the OS installation.

What BIOS version are you running by the way?

I deleted all partitions and did a complete format. I have the BIOS that was released on 10/25/2012.

I want to buy a new SSD and an external blu-ray drive, but such problems are holding me back.

Which M11x revision do you own? If it's an R3 send me a PM with your service tag and phone number and I'll look into it. If it's an R1/R2 you may need to try a 3rd party updated audio driver.

It could have been that you needed to run the PC with the Standard Microsoft Audio drivers. At least you are now safe and back to Win7
