Has anyone tried out windows 10 on a M11x R1? I'm interested in installing it for the DirectX12 and to be able to streamline my devices together.

No idea how it would work on the M11x R1. I've only installed Windows 10 Home 64 bit on my brother's M11x R3 so far, and it's working well on it. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

I haven't seen anyone with it on an R1 yet. I do have a friend that owns one, I'll ask him if he has installed Windows 10 in it, or simply try it myself if there's still one in our lab.

If an R1 has a core 2 duo then I installed Windows 10. It went well. Had to troubleshoot w/ the NVIDIA drivers a little bit, but that's all. It's only been a few days but so far so good.

where did you update your drivers from and how exactly did you trouble shoot the Nvidia drivers?

I have seen over 6900 on Win7 on the same notebook with these clock settings, but 6577 is still OK.

Using an M11xR1 I could install Win10 without problems.
If you use the discrete Nvidia Graphics drivers, you should be fine.
The problems starts with 'switchable' GPU as Intel does not support the GMA 4500M HD drivers on Windows 10.

With a bit of tooling around I could get the driver to work and a 1366x768 display, but as soon as I reboot the system it goes back to the 'basic' Microsoft screen driver and 1024x768 with no higher screen resolution available.

In the old days with beta Win10 I could get the whole switchable GMA/Nivida driver thing to work, but looks like with Windows 10 now, those days are gone.

I have my M11xR1 configured with Windows 10 and Windows 7 builds, as I don't want to lose Windows 7 until Windows 10 can give me an equal/better Windows experience.
This doesn't look very likely though.

But maybe there'll be an M11xR1 Champion, with good Windows skill who can engineer a few solutions. Fingers crossed.

Hi, just for a test I've also installed win 10 on my m11x r1. All is okay, I've used discrete-only mode.

NVIDIA is the only driver I've installed myself, other were installed by windows 10. Except I've got two unknown devices, any advice what could it be?

Okaaay, looks like I found solution myself.

One was smth called COMPAL Embedded System Control and another one is some Motion Sensor crap ( http://ftp1.dell.com/folder00951951m/6/)...

I have the exact unknown devices.. who knows, m11x R1 runs great now!
Installed a SSD and went back to life!

I'm guessing we don't need those xD

I recently took the bait and accepted the free Windows 10 upgrade for my M11x R2. I updated everything, but now suddenly my Nvidia control panel / Optimus automatic overclocking is missing. My games are barely playable, and the laptop runs slowly in general because it always stays on the crappy default CPU settings. When I go to the Dell website to try to get a program / driver set to re-install my Nvidia stuff and Optimus, the useless website tells me they decided not to support Windows 10 in my laptop (not buying Dell in the future!).

Can someone please tell me what I need to do to make games playable on my Alienware again?

Unfortunately, there's no option that I am aware of on the R2 to disable Optimus and just use the Nvidia card. That would have solved the issue.

You may want to try a different driver version downloaded directly from Nvidia. Check this post:

    https://www.tenforums.com/graphic-cards/18863-windows-10-nvidia-optimus-issue.html

Not sure if any of those suggestions are gonna work. You may just want to revert back to 7.

Thanks for the link. As an update, I spent all of last night trying to steps found at the link below, except that at the end I couldn't install the Nvidia stuff because (unlike at the start of the instructions) the installation software kept saying that the necessary hardware was not found on the laptop (I am guessing because part of the instructions said to delete the driver in your control panel).

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/m11x-r1-hybrid-optimus-driver-windows-10.781121/

Out of desperation, I decided to Hail Mary and reverted to an earlier version of Windows overnight (I thought I would get to pick which version, but it simply took off once I hit go). Now oddly enough, whatever version/ of windows it reverted me to seems to be running the Nvidia control panel and Optimus:

Now when I go to Revert to an Earlier Version, this time I see an option to revert to Windows 7. Seems like a shame considering that I spent a bunch of time trying to get my stupid Windows 10 settings right before I realized Nvidia/Optimus weren't working, and considering that (for the moment) I am getting my overclocking like I need.

On the other hand, I am worried that at some point in the future, Windows 10 will force some stupid auto-update that will nuke my Nvidia control panel / Optimus again...I can't find a way to permanently disable Windows 10 updates, only to require notifications before updating.

Edit: maybe I will keep Windows 10 but disable auto-updating just to make sure it doesn't fubar my Nvidia stuff

If it's working, I'd recommend taking note of the driver version that works, and then disable Windows from automatically updating those drivers in case it tries to update to a newer version that may not work. You are better off downloading graphics drivers directly from Nvidia anyway. There are a few ways to do this in Win 10, but here's a quick link:
