the right light of the grill on my m11x R1 is dying... see image

M11x light busted | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

    1) would my warranty cover it? (no my warranty is not expired, and i have the total care package, accidental warranty)
    2) should i even bother? (but well, i mean i paid for the warranty right?)
    3) if i bring it into a dell shop for repair, is it a quick fix or will they have to keep it for days? weeks? and possibly have to reformat my laptop just to fix it?

any advice or prior experience would be appreciated

    thanks,

OH, and I've ready about the hinge problem. If i bring my m11x to the shop to fix anyway, would they replace my hinge even though its not broken, nor do i have any problem with it right now?
(i just figured if i do it, then mind as well get everything done to prevent later visits)

    Would they allow that?

    They will fix the light.

They won't fix the hinge yet, the hinge replacement program has not started yet to my knowledge. Right now they will only fix it if it is broken.

They will not have to format unless things go horribly wrong, which is always a possibility, but you should ALWAYS have a backup of your important data regardless. They may have to keep it for a week or two depending on how busy they are or what their policy is, but it might be done in a day or two.

I had a similar issue on my R1. I opened it up to find the AlienFX LED for the right speaker had become loose and was no longer secured properly. A quick re-alignment and a bit of pressure popped it right back into place. If you are new to opening up the sytem, go with the warranty service call. If you want to give it a try, reference the service manual for tear down instruction. Not that involved. Just be careful not to over-torque the screws when re-assembling.

Hey BatBoy, could you elaborate any more or do you have any pictures?

I've got the same thing going on, & I opened my system up & tore it down, partially out of curiosity, partially because of the dim light(I also had a speaker go out, so I was gonna look @ that too) but I didn't see the actual LED, just the white plastic thing that glows. Of course, I didn't mess with it very much because I didn't want to break anything so I let it be & reassembled. The dim light on one side really gets on my nerves tho. If it's a quick fix as you say then I might open her up again.
