I just ordered an M11x R1 with 4GB of RAM today. Looks like expected delivery is in 2 weeks. This wait will be tough. I went with a 1 year warranty as I think the hinge issue is taken care of now since they will replace it.

    I play L4D, L4D2, Starcraft 2, oblivion, and Borderlands

How well will these run on max settings on it's screen at the native resolution?

L4D and L4D2 should run well on max, maybe have to tone down some details, Starcraft 2 looks the same as high, ultra, or extreme, imho, and it handles high just fine. Oblivion should have zero issues. Borderlands has some stiff system requirements. I haven't tried it yet but you'll probably have to drop the details down quite a bit.

Look up gameplay videos on Youtube. All those games seem to run well based on what I've seen so far. Looks like we ordered on the same day, passive...lol.

The Alienware M11x can handle pretty much any game out there. There are some games where you may nto be able to run at max details (on that list, Starcraft 2), but it will be able to run well at lower detail settings.

For Starcraft 2 specifically, the detail settings you choose will depend on what you do with the game. If you are after the highest image quality at playable framerates, then you can get around 30fps at High detail settings. If you play Starcraft 2 competitively on ladder, you will want to set the graphics to Low, so that you get the highest framerates possible to help you micro.

The only game that I found that doesn't run well on the M11x is GTA4. But that game is a bad port, so it doesn't run well on any PC.

I can't wait for it to arrive. My last mobile x201 Lenovo kicked the bucket so this seemed like a nice replacement/fun machine :D

I have an Asus v51 I think with a 9800m GS but it is much to large, bulky, and heavy to move around and do work on.

Left 4 Dead 1 will run max settings with no issues. Left 4 Dead 2 will run max settings, w/ 2x/4x AF with no MSAA. You can run MSAA on both these games, but your framerate will take a hit.

Starcraft II will run at 40-60 FPS on medium/low - much higher if you turn down shaders but crank up texture quality.

Borderlands runs at 30-50 FPS with all settings high.

Oblivion runs at about 40-60 FPS on default "Ultra" settings.

    Welcome to the club!

Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 run with everything on high (but I like to keep effect detail on medium).

Starcraft 2 multiplayer, for the smoothest gameplay and best visuals, you need to set to fullscreen (1366x768), shaders, terrain, and texture quality to medium, models on high, and everything else to the lowest they can go. Since the m11x's screen is so small, the difference between medium and high settings is minimal.

Oblivion runs very smooth. You can even throw in graphic mods to make the game look even more amazing. The only place where I lagged a bit was in Shivering Isles (the DLC).

Borderlands runs at a good 40-50. I had settings to force high quality bloom on, shadows off and line shading off in the .ini

I would suggest either keeping the Dell stock drivers (which I believe is 257.30) or you can install the 258.96 drivers, with the modded INF, I found it to be the best results for the games you mentioned. As for games with PunkBuster, you'll need the latest drivers from nvidia

As soon as it arrives, grab a blank USB stick (8GB size) or connect an external optical drive and then launch Dell DataSafe Local or AlienRespawn. Go to the Create Recovery Media option and use it. :)

Preserve the out of box state - it may come in handy later. .
