Hi I've searching the internet all day looking for an explanation as to whether it's worth upgrading the ram in my m11x r3 i7 laptop. I'm curious as to whether 8gb or 16 gb of ram will do anything to my performance etc I just wonder if it will boost it in anyway or if it's redundant in such a tweaked computer.
Also what can I do to get the best from it eg SSD Hdd or better wireless card etc
I like my m11x and just want to get the best I can from it (even though I know it's limitations).

8GIG is all you need, 16GIG I doubt you would see the difference because only the processor and GPU currently hold the system back.

Thanks I have ordered 8gb because I only have 4 gb at the mo (got win 7 64bit) what will this do. I keep searching the net but there's no real evidence of what 8gb will do as opposed to 4gb. What am I likely to find improvement wise. ( don't worry I know it will only do so much)

It has more do to with what programs you use and how many you have open at the same time.

If you're looking for overall speed and responsiveness, anything more than 4GB 1333MHz isn't going to give you anything at all.

An SSD on the other hand is definitely they way to go if that's what you're after.

I'm thinking of getting a hybrid as SSD is phenomenally expensive and low on actual memory.

I got the hybrid. I've been phenomenally happy with it. I need space and have a budget. Hybrid is awesome. Not really that expensive, either.

Cheers I'm researching into the idea of an SSD at the moment and have posted a new thread about OS migration etc if all goes well I will have a serious bad boy on my hands.

A 240GB SSD is on pre-order atm at Aria for under £170 atm.

Yeah, I agree, all depends on what you have open.
After Effects, Corel Painter 12 and Photoshop chew through ram! Painter especially... o_O"

All depends on how much stuff you have open and if you're doing multimedia kinda stuff.

An SSD will speed things up considerably. I've got one on my wish list atm, just need to save a few more weeks.

    All the best.

Which SSD is that? Make sure you grab a SATA3 one to maximise performance... I went Vertex 3 when it came out last summer and the R3 flies along.

I'm planning on putting 8GB of HyperX in the M11x I just ordered, the same I have in my M18x. I know it will run @1333MHz, but that's ok.

Need to get an SSD as well. A hybrid would be cheaper, but I want to have an SSD in this little devil.

    I use Kingston HyperX Plug in and Play DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB + Crucial 128GB In my N55SF.

And have opted for Crucial 256GB + Corsair CMSX8GX3M2A1600C9 For my M11x R3 when it eventually gets here, sitting @ Inverness Depot as we speak :)
