Hi guy so this is my problem:

this Friday something happened to my charger and it stopped working so I tried another dell laptop charger and it kept the laptop on but it was not charging the battery. Anyways later on my dad found a hp laptop charger that was also nearly exactly the same and it had the same effects as my friends dell charger I decided to remove the battery and start using the hp laptop charger as a power supply. But the real problem is that my games have started to lag ALOT lately for example skyrim used to run on high at about 40-50 fps but now it only runs at 10-20 fps and this is for nearly all of my games (I have 24) and its starting to become REALLY annoying so what do you think it might be I haven't really installed anything new lately and the only thing that I could think of is the battery please could someone help im really sick of this and I have no experience in this problem. :( please help!!!!!!!!!!!1

p.s it comes up with please use a 65 watt charger at the start up screen even though all my charger I have tried are 65 watt

also I have overclocked it and disabled intel speed step

    also I ordered a 90 watt replacement charger for alienware m11x r1

    also please help :)

I bet your issue is dell's way of recognizing chargers. They basically have the computer check for a "supported" charger, and unless your charger is detected as "supported" you get super limited performance of everything. It's partially to protect the computer and/or charger, especially on larger laptops that come with large adapters. For example, if your computer needs a 180w adapter, and you plug in a 90w, it makes sense to limit the power draw, so you don't blow the power supply. However, it's odd on your machine as it only needs a 65w or 90w PSU anyway. That means that the check is only there to make sure you use a genuine dell adapter. AKA, if yours gets lost or breaks, they get to sell you another one.

You need the original charger for it to be able to draw the power it needs to play games.

You need a genuine Dell PA-12 65W Charger for the R1. As the others have stated it'll downclock if it doesn't detect the proper charger. Don't be tight on purchasing a "replacement" charger for your expensive machine - it can only blow up or damage the machine make sure you stick with the genuine Dell ones!
