Hi guys, I hope someone can tell me which chip is my cpu: is it the one under the heatsink that has screws labelled 1-4, or is it the directly below that one (which has a heatsink that isn't screwed in)? I know the 335m is under the heatsink labeled 5-7. In the second pic, is the bottom chip (w/ the thermal paste) the cpu? Thanks.

I suspect it's the one that is in-between the four screws, but I haven't been able to find solid information. :p

It's the one with the 4 screws, the one on the bottom.

since i don't think intel was putting the graphics chip with the CPU on same chip at the time, the closer one to the heatsink (down most one) should be CPU and the on to the right the intel graphics.

If the intel graphics and CPU are on same chip, it could be north bridge, the right most one.

Isn't the third chip the northbridge? I thought the Intel graphics were integrated with the cpu.

In the R1, the Intel GPU (4500MHD) is in the northbridge.

In the first gen Intel Core CPUs which have integrated graphics - probably R2, the GPU and memory controller has moved right next to the CPU and you can see the two dies for CPU and GPU - image.

In Sandy Bridge CPUs - R3?, the CPU and GPU are in a single (huge, rectangular) die.
