Hi everyone, it's my first post on this forum. I write form Italy and I want to buy a ssd for my M11x r3. In particular I want to buy a 256Gb drive (I prefer to have more free space). Searching in the web I found two model for my tasks (reliability at first, speed is less important): Samsung 830 and Crucial M4. I want to know what model do you recomend for our laptop. I don't want to kill the battery so I'm not interested in new Ocz Vertex 4 (fast but new also, we have no information about reliability). Also if you have one of these drives in your laptop, every feedback is welcome. Thank you and sorry if I did some spelling mistake

From general reviews online, I believe the Samsung is considered the better SSD, though it is much newer so benefits from a more modern controller, plus the advantages of being all Samsung from flash to silicon. I usually go check out the monthly round-up at tomshardware.com who do a "best for price x" listing.

My R3 has a Vertex 3 in it and no complaints yet, speed is impressive, battery life is superb (currently claims 7hr 30 when at 100%, about 65 mWh left after a year). If I were buying now, I'd get Samsung, Intel or maybe that top range Corsair.

Crucial M4 128GB SATA III is the best bang for buck and people swear by them when I finally get rid of my SATA II its the drive Ill pick up.

The Samsung 830 is marginally better in some situations, but at a slightly higher cost. Personally, i've always been a fan of Crucial and they have always made solid products so the M4 was a no-brainer.

In all honesty, it absolutely does not matter which one of them you choose. you will not notice any real-world performance -AT ALL- between them and they are both excellent drives for the M11x.

Uh oh... let's all leave this thread before it becomes a shouting match for favourite brands of SSDs! :D As per Rishwin's comment, I think the big thing is that all are good and you will notice a big step up from spinning metal and wonder how you ever managed before going solid...
