Hi all, I'm new to the world of gaming, I received a M11X for Christmas.

    The specs are:

    - Intel Core i5 2467M 1.6GHz (2.3GHz w/Turbo Boost, 3MB Cache)
    - 8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 1333MHz
    - NVIDIA GeForce GT540 graphics with 1.0GB Video Memory and Optimus
    - 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s

My question is with these specs can I play some of the newest games such as Batman Arkham City, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Portal 2, Call of Duty etc.

    Thanks in advance.

Arkham City plays fine on high, DX9, with no physx.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is playable.

Portal 2 runs AMAZINGLY. Any Valve game will run fine.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 (and all the Call of Duty games) will run very well.

The m11x should be able to handle most 2011 (and pre-2011) AAA titles at medium to ultra settings at native rez. The only games it tends to have trouble with are those that are pretty poorly optimised to begin with (like Metro 2033, etc) or in cases where the CPU becomes limiting (certain situations in Starcraft 2, etc).

For the games you listed, you should be able to run everything at max except maybe SWTOR.

You'll be able to run almost all new games on med-high settings @ native resolution. If you link into an external monitor, expect to see some drop in performance. Old republic has been great thus far on my M11x. 40-60 fps outside of cities and 30 or so in cities. Highly demanding fps games may chug though. That's maxing all settings aside form shadows and shaders. Most anything from 2010 or prior should run very well on the R3 though.

I have been able to play skyrim, assasin's creed, doom 3, starcraft 2 (medium settings works best), civilization 5, Flight Simularor X, Simcity 4, and City of Heroes. With no problems at all, great little gaming machine but I did upgrade to the i7, 8GB Ram, 256GB SSD though
