I know I had a thread like this up and running but somehow it got inactive, so I'm starting a new one with a new story.

So, I made a fresh recovery with AlienRespawn, made all necessary Windows Updates, installed the 266.58 driver from nVidia and updating my BIOS to A04. Then I installed my favorite games, Mafia II and GTA San Andreas. First, I launched Mafia II after making sure mafia2.exe was added to my whitelist and had a great time for almost five hours.

Later on I launched GTA San Andreas, which had gta-sa.exe added to my whitelist and the first thing I experience when I hit 'Start New Game' and the character spawns is a freeze, only the screen, the sound is still running like it should. When I try to get to the desktop it fails, so I hit the classic CTRL+ALT+DEL and starts the Task Manager and tried to quit the process. The game closes down and I'm back on the desktop BUT gta-sa.exe is still running in the background and I can't quit it what ever I do.

I have tried to run taskkill in command prompt, downloading pskill, or just spamming the DEL button in Task Manager but it still refuses to quit. THis forces me to do a hard reboot since the process is taking alot of memory usage.

THis thing has been going on for a while now and that's the reason I made a recovery to make sure I did everything correct when installing the drivers. I also went to Dell and checked each driver for the version and I got the latest version on every driver installed. This thing is only happening when playing GTA San Andreas, I can play Fallout New Vegas, Mafia II, Call of Duty Black Ops, Call of Duty 2, hell, I can also get Medal of Honor Airborne and Brothers in Arms Hells Highway to run smooth on this machine with highest settings WITHOUT any kind of freeze as I experience with GTA San Andreas.

So ladies and gentlemen, this is my situation. Do you think the 266.58 driver is bad when playing older games like GTA San Andreas, recommend me a driver or... what ever, help? :confused2:

NOTE: I have been trying to use EVGA Precision to downlock my shader clock but it didn't help and using beta drivers but still a hell.

hmm well, i have an r1 and have had no problems at all. the only thing i can suggest is run gta in compatibility mode for windows xp service pack 2. but also the intel hd thats in the r2 is more then powerful enough to run san andreas. you shouldnt really need the gt335m

I am having a similar problem with Black Ops. No OC other than turbo bust (lol) If I had MSI afterburner running when it did freeze I wouldn't be able to kill the task and MSI afterburner would also be unresponsive and neither task will die. Note I was using MSI afterburner to monitor GPU temperatures. I was doing a little over clocking earlier in the day but I was getting a freeze before this.

EDIT: Using Dell stock drivers, 257.30, Not sure if any other drivers are going to work with l4d2, and I thought ATI had bad drivers just because it didn't like my monitor... Never had this kind of issue with ATI. Side note: Has it been this way since optimus and the "smart" switching of the GPU?

Okey... I have been using the 260.99 driver for a week now and... I just feel like throwing my notebook out of the windows right now. On a Friday it decides to give me the same crap again. It maybe made the intervals between the crashes longer. THe driver worked for a full week without ANY issues... I don't know what to do, what the hell is wrong with Dell or Alienware, who ever installed Windows.

This thing happend right after I installed Fallout New Vegas, that couldn't be the reason why it crashed right? The title Iw as playing at that time was GTA San Andreas.

    WHat should I do now...
