    Hey guys

Sorry if this has been asked but I didn't see it anywhere.

I have my m11x coming in the mail but right now it only has 2gb of ram. I was wondering if it matters what ram I buy for the laptop. I used crucial.com and saw that the m11x needs 204 pin ddr3 ram. Do I have to buy a certain kind of ram for it to be compatible with the m11x or can I just buy and stick and plug it right in and expect it to work right away? I am looking to buy a 4gb stick so if anyone would provide a link or just let me know if any stick will work that would be great.

    Thanks

There are 2 slots for memory in the m11x. to run best, each slot should be filled with the same memory. for 4 gb, you want 2 x 2GB.

If buying more ram you might want to consider the speed as it is clocked at 800MHz (+ a bit more if you OC). Dell put 1333MHz speed memory in but you can also get 1066MHz.

Is this a limitation that has no workaround? I mean is the 800 Mhz tied to the Intel HD graphics? I wonder if you disable the Intel HD graphics if memory will run at rated speed (a normal desktop BIOS option). Has anyone tried this yet?
    Thanks

The 800Mhz memory speed is for the M11x R2, which set by the memory controller located on the same chip package as the CPU. It is not tied to the Intel HD graphics, and the Intel HD graphics cannot be disabled.

What is the performance of an R1 with 8 Gigs of RAM? Do you guys think it's worth the upgrade? I would think it was a bottleneck on the low power CPU.

Reminds me of my old 82' Datsun Maxima- big, heavy, handles like a boat, but had a 280Z engine in it. :D (And a 2-speed auto trans, woo!)
