Sorry to hear someone stole your m11x. The big easy doesn't turn out that way for most. I really am sorry. keep an eye out on craigs list too for that area. Have the police check pawn shops.

Any advice to give to others so that fellow travelers dont make the same mistake? Every situation has a story.

    Good Luck,

    StevenX

Yeah sorry man, that sucks. Like Steve said, keep an eye out on all the sites where they could sell it (I'm guessing you already know that since you registered here :p ). But, don't try to handle it yourself and DON'T contact the seller if you do find it -- talk to the police first.

I already replaced my laptop. Actually took advantage of a promo that store.microsoft.com was running and got an R1 M11x w/ SU7300, 4GB RAM, 320GB harddrive for less than $600 with overnight shipping.

None-the-less, I'd like the original one back.

And it's allmy fault that it's gone. My backpack wasn't zipped when I got out of the taxi cab at the airport. Apparently my black padded Mobile Edge Sumo sleeve slid out of my book bag along the way.

I've called cab companies, the city cab commission, the hotel i left from, and the airport lost and found, and no luck. So it's either still bumping around in the cabbie's white Ford van, or it was found by him or another patron.

Either way, find it, let me know/ where/who has it. I'll contact the police.
I'm no superhero, and I'm in Washington, DC and probably won't be back to N.O. until Jan.

    Thanks for looking.

In that case I wouldn't call it a thief I would call it finders keepers most people won't return something like that.

    You are absolutely right.
It was my mistake, and most people probably would keep it.
As I said, I've already purchased another to replace it.

Personally, I was just hoping some newb would find it, try to login, not be able, flip it over and dial the number and accept a cash reward, rather than try to hack my account, blast and reload the OS, or swap the hard drive.

Personally I'm not like that I would've returned it since your number is engraved, if not I would've handed it to the cab company lost+found of some sort, thats just me :), because I look at situations as what if I was the other person's shoes.

But hope everything works out for you, they should have lojack for laptops, I haven't heard of anything like that, they have it for android phones why not laptops :)

This is the kind of mindset that keeps the theif's conscious clear of any guilt. Im sorry I wasn't the person who found it...not because of this finders keepers mentality but because I would do exactly what anyone should do.

People dont lose pets with collars, including a name and phone number printed on it, and not expect the party that finds that pet to call and return it.

If you haven't already, contact Dell Support. Have them place a note on file for your system's service tag. If someone call's support, they will know its been reported as stolen/lost.

    Thanks for the link.
I don't know that I can use it, though, as the system wasn't technically 'stolen'...

Long story short, I left it in a cab.

I would still report it. If not the form, I would call support and have them place a note on the service tag.

Thanks - I think my chances of getting it back are pretty low - but I haven't given up - despite purchasing another M11x and Sumo sleeve. I guess that is a pretty solid endorsement of the product.

some home insurance policies include coverage for theft of property whilst outside the home, so you might want to read the fine print if you have a policy. check your car insurance policy as well.

Thanks for the thought, and it's a good one, but I'm not going to file a claim against my homeowners insurance for something I let slip out of my bag in a taxi cab. I know I have a $500 deductable, anyway. Good thinking, though :) everyone on this forum is very helpful.

Auto Updates were enabled, to download automatically and prompt to install.
Seems like Microsoft could offer some type of retrieval service, or at least tracking...

Glad you were lucky. I find most people in this world to be honest. I regularly receive packages at my home that sit on my porch until dark. $1200 guitars, $500 camera lens, etc. No one ever bothers my stuff.

I really wonder if my laptop is still in the sumo sleeve bumping around under the seat of that taxi cab...

It's still out there, probably either got blasted and reloaded or is sitting in a pawn shop. Near as I can tell, it hasn't sold on eBay nor New Orleans CL.
