I purchased a i7, 4gb and 320g HD M11x (so excited) ~$1300. Wondering if I should have bought the min setup and then purchased 1TB HD and 8GB ram online?

I didnt see any mention of upgrade options on here with a quick search on here but I purchased the laptop yesterday, I should have time to still cancel and reorder.

    Advice?

Most people seemed to buy the base setup for i7, with plans on upgrading RAM and HD on there own.

Is there a post for recommended brands to upgrade to? Ram Specs? Ect?

I don't have the laptop at this point but would like to order all the pieces ahead of time.

Thanks for the heads up on the ordering the base system.

Crucial memory is always a good place to start. Also if you change your mind and decide to cancel and re-order, I recommend you do it sooner rather than later. I had to cancel and reorder so I could get the $400.00 in discounts that I am entitled to and it took me over a week just to cancel my order.

    Best of luck to you!

Well they seem to be late arriving. Its past 7am and the site says they open at 7 CT time.

    Im looking at this:
    Seagate 500 GB HD 7200rpm
    Newegg.com - Seagate Momentus 7200.4 ST9500420AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Notebook Hard Drive -Bare Drive

not 100% sure what ram to get based on the Speeds.
    Newegg.com - Computer Hardware,Memory,Laptop Memory,4GB
This is the selection that newegg has.
Goes up to 200 for only 4GB but thats 1 Dim. Thing I may start with just the 1 Dim and total out to 5 GB if the pc comes with a 1dim stick of 1gb ram.

Yea im kinda wonder that now as well. I have a desktop that I run a lot of VM's on. That's the only reason why id need it at this point. I also leave that machine running all the time with multiple apps. I don't think this laptop will be anything like that for me so I decided to not to worry about the extra ram.

I think im gonna suck it up and just leave the order as is. Maybe buy a new HD down the road if needed.

As far as I know you cant get 1tb hard drives which fit in the m11x yet.

A 1TB HDD will not fit in an m11x, but I would echo the positivity for the Momentus XT - it's a fantastic drive.

Dont waste any money on hard drive upgrades directly from Dell. You can have a 500GB HDD, and the 160GB HDD for the price of the upgrade (direct from Dell). If I was ordering an R2, all I'd pay for is i7 and maybe 4GB ram (Some games don't have a noticeable difference between 2GB and 4GB ram). And you should order Bluetooth. Its only $20 ($18 with EPP, and I'm sure you can get it for free if you order on the phone and haggle some)

The ultimate is a Intel X-25 M, but I'm not sure if you are willing to spend to get that. Can you qualify for EPP? The price difference is enough, especially with that EPP coupon, to make a SSD more feasible.

    So upgrades you should do:
SSD if feasible, 500GB Momentus HDD | 500GB 7200 RPM HDD if not.
Kingston HyperX RAM if you are going aftermarket to update the RAM.

I just bought this same spec for 1050. Really strange as the original unit was 1099 (on sale) and I went in and changed the keyboard color default and for some reason it knocked the price down to 1050. I won't look a gift horse in the mouth thats for sure.

Nm I figured out what it was. I clicked off adding Macaffey. Its in the cart by default at 50 bucks. Almost missed that.

Does this appear in the list of specs on my order page. It's not listed there so I assume I remembered to opt out or it wasn't already selected.
