So I currently use an M11x r1 with the dual core chip.

    Locally there is an m14x r2 and m11x r2 for sale....the m11x r2 being a great deal, the m14x r2 I'll have to haggle quite a bit on.
    M11x r2 has the i5-520UM and 335m and the m14x has the i7-3610QM and gt650m.

    1. What kind of performance boost will I see between my m11x r1 and the m11x r2?

    Thanks a lot,all.

The performance boost from the M11x R2 over your M11x R1 is very minimal. They both use the same GPU and the CPU on the R2 should be slightly better for gaming. If you can, definitely get the M14x. It is in a different world compared to the two M11x.

Opt for the M14x R2 as the M11x is considered rather outdated these days.

I guess it depends on how portable you need it to bed, but the differences between the R2 & your R1 are minimal. Upgrading from an R1 isn't worth it unless you're going to an R3.

get the m14x, as m11x R2 will be minimally noticeable, in game wise as in as every day use. It is pretty much same machine, just a better cpu, wont notice in most games.

Unless you really need the portability (thats why i got an R3, and m11x isn't out dated that badly, can handle a lot of good games still. compared to crap they sell, i don't even understand why they put dedicated graphics card, which is just slightly better than the integrated graphics, asking for more money than for an m11x, only offering a bigger screen and no performance increase)

Intel's HD4000M IGP is still 10-15% slower than the R1's GT335M - there's no substitute for a good graphics card.

I agree, if you plan on getting another M11x make sure it's an R3 to get a noticeable upgrade. If you can handle a slightly bigger rig, the M14x will give you a much better overall performance. Plus it has a mSATA slot, which is very useful to improve boot/load times without having to purchase an expensive SSD.
