Ok, I play some games. BFBC2, L4D2, Warhammer Online. But it's pretty light, about 5-7 hours a week.

I'm looking for something that's unobtrusive, that I can pop out and not have to have it plugged in all the time and on a huge laptop cooler. The way it is now with my g71gx I might as well have a desktop, as it's always in the same place. I live in NY so space is at a premium. That being said every now and then I like to hook my laptop up to my 24" monitor for more screen real estate, 1920x1200. Could the m11x even remotely handle this?

And if the m11x isn't the answer are there any good suggestions? I'm leery of HP so I really don't want to consider the envy.

I have no experience connecting this to larger screens, it will definately take the games you are talking about, maybe not all maxed but at good settings. It isn't really light either at 4.5lbs. It is small and takes up very little space, you can get 5+ hours away from an outlet, 7+ if you go with the R1. But if you want to game away from that outlet you are looking at maybe 2-3 hours on the R2.

Search is your friend.. but yes, the nvidia 335m gt can handle 1920x1080p I have not tried 1920x1200. the m11x is the smallest power house available today. That is why they are so popular. I mean if you walk into a book store or starbucks... who do you think most folks are drooling over? The guy with the ipad leaning all over the place while gaming or the notebook, playing bfbc2 with all the pretty colors???

    (ok back to serious here)...

Loads of info in the forums. Read up and make the choice thats right for you. Good luck,

    StevenX

Thanks for the info but did you need to get snarky about searching? I had some specific questions, mostly pertaining to usability and the possibility of hooking it up to the 1920x1200. And again, thanks for the reply.

Just so you know no matter what m11x you get you will not be anywhere near maxing those games out at that resolution. If you are big on graphics and high framerates then look elsewhere.

I'd suggest going for the m15x/m17x (depending on budget and if you are set on an Alienware), they will do this with ease and can easily be unplugged and put away.

The m11x is built to be extremely portable and run all day on the go. It is a brilliant ultraportable gaming device but being such means a few compromises do have to be made.

You need a more powerful laptop if you want to game with decent settings at 1920x1200. Thats 120% more pixels than the M11x native resolution. (1 million pixels vs over 2 million)

The m11x R1 that I have handles everything I've thrown at it. And I have a lot of games on steam 114 or so ranging from old school games to newer ones like BFBC2 and L4D2. Seems like it would suit you well and as steven said search is your friend :D and I don't mean that in any hostile way. <3

Sweet, when you say BFBC2 you refer to MP or just single player?

Both it runs pretty well at 40+ frames in a full server. All settings medium-high with AA x2, this is with a slight overclock of the GPU though.

Cool, I'm starting to feel pretty comfortable ordering one. I can hook it up to a 720p TV from time to time as well for some larger real estate without messing with the resolution too much.
