Besides the discrete buttons, what does the m11x trackpad support?

    One finger tap left click?
    2 finger tap right click?
    pinch to zoom?
2 finger scroll vertical/horizontal? or are there scroll bars on the right and bottom for that?
Any three finger forward/back movements? (I dont know if this is just a windows issue that doesn't support it or not - but it is one of the great features on macs - I saw this The Windows PC ClickPad finally improved? Synaptics ClickPad IS Series 3 preview -- Engadget so maybe it is possible)

Is it a synaptics touchpad, is anyone using 3rd party drivers?

Also, are there media buttons (ff/next track, pause/play, etc) on the function keys or are they discrete? Do you need to hit fn+that key to make them work? Optimally I could have them and the brightness controls but still make use of f5 for refeshes.

One finger tap left click: Yep.
Two finger tap right click: Nope.
    Pinch to Zoom: Yep
    Two finger Scroll: Nope
Horizontal and vertical scroll regions: Yes (adjustable area too)
You also get a great Glide feature if required. Here the mouse pointer keeps moving an adjustable amount after release (similar to flicking a trackball)
Also the pad features configurable 'Tap Zones' Here you can configure a certain action for each corner of the mouse pad. So you could set say bottom left as play, mute, search, open browser, pretty much anything. Then when you tap in that corner that action will be executed. A different action can be set to each corner. Also the size of the zones can be adjusted.
There are a few other features but nothing out of the ordinary.
And yes it is a Synaptics pad. But not a 'click pad' I'm using the synaptics driver ver 15.1.22 not dell's driver.

Yes, you do get media buttons integrated into the F keys. F7-F12 are mute, <vol, >vol, skip back, play/pause, and skip forward respectively. And yes you have to hit FN and F-Key to make them work. F5 still refreshes, FN and F5 Decreases brightness. F3 and F4 are toggle wireless and brightness up.

Discovered this morning that if I am on the scroll bar and tap twice ... holding the finger down on the second tap ... turns the scroll button blue and it now follows the touch pad ... nice when surfing long threads.

Thanks, I've found that the scroll bars IMO work just as good if not better than 2 finger scroll, at least for me.

The corner feature is definitely great.

Has anyone keyswapped the media keys in f7-f12 so when youpress f7 you get mute and in order to get the standard 'f7' function you press fn+f7...

I assume thats possible with some windows utility?

From what I know, the default drivers don't do much of anything, but downloading the latest from Synaptics, adds features. I don't use them however due to loss of the feature "Disable Touchpad When A Mouse Is Detected".
