Ok, the excitement was too much to handle, and the fact that I enjoyed and treasured the m11xR2 so much in the last year, I decided to pull the trigger to upgrade to the R3!

I pretty much used my m11xR2 as my main/primary machine and use it for web/database/graphics development. Never once did I regret owning this little 'AtomAnt' of a gem!

In fact, I placed my first order yesterday, but decided to cancel it as I configured it originally with 8GB RAM & a 750GB HDD. I figured that if I were to replace the HDD with a SSD, the cost of the additional $100 could be put towards the SSD instead. Afterall, once the m11xR3 arrives, the HDD will be removed and not used. If I were to upgrade the RAM, it would also be cheaper to procure that on my own.

I placed my 'new' order just now. This included the i7-2617 CPU, Win 7 Ultimate, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, Soundblaster option, intel 6250 Wimax, GOBI AT&T and bluetooth 3.0.

Don't forget to find and use coupons you can find online to give yourselves a better deal! AND don't trust the Dell phone sales rep to give you the best deals....ALWAYS do your coupon research, place the items in the online cart, get it configured to what you want, see the final online configured price BEFORE calling the number. This way, you are aware of the 'best' price you can get on your own, and can ask the sales rep to beat that price. No chance of the sales rep giving you the smoke screen and adding 'hidden' charges. If you do not want to spend too much time on the phone trying to bargain with the sales rep, just tell him/her the price you got on your own, and to call you back ONLY if they can give you a better deal. This way, they have alot more incentive to work for you and get you a better deal so that you purchase through them.

Estimated Date of Delivery: 5/16 :D

Let's hear your exciting purchase story and when's your estimated date of delivery. Guess we'll all be waiting for our little 'atomic' beasts to arrive! :D

Just put my order through, natch

Dell has been tweaking the cost over the last few days; first the higher-priced model came default with 500GB hd and 6GB RAM, then they removed the 500GB option, then re-added it and dropped the included RAM to 4GB, and I think the warranty costs more as well...that, and Bluetooth is listed on my invoice as costing $13 instead of $20...figured I had to buy now lest they wound up deleting the $350 off coupon and settling for higher prices. Whew.

Yes. I agree. Buying a computer system from Dell is like playing the stock market. Prices can fluctuate greatly depending on the coupons you can hunt down. It is also dependent on the options they let you configure your system with. On the first day(yesterday), they did not have the 320GB HDD option, only the 500GB as minimum and 6GB RAM as minimum. I was glad to be able to cancel that first order and re-order with the newly available options today - 320GB HDD instead as I was going to remove it and use an SSD instead.

So the moral of the story is, if you find a good deal with a coupon or a combination of coupons, hit the 'BUY' button immediately to lock in the deal! Cause you never know when the coupon gods decide to remove their 'blessings'!

Just an FYI for you guys that got the M11x r3 on relase date as I did. I went back and did a little checking and noticed that the price that my computer came out to be on the day I ordered it, was $100 more than it was today. Also that the $350 coupon code FHRRHN2JSKLHDL did stack with the $50 off code BHW1L0MX0D?MCX (this code expires April 30th FYI).

As I did not use the $50 coupon together that was $150 less that what I was going to pay for it.

I called Dell and complained about it. There was nothing that they could do with my current order but cancel it. So I played the I need it ASAP card they agreed to cancel the current order place a new one and give me free overnight shipping on the order.

Now because my orginal order at $100 less was not enough to get the $350 discount, so I was able to add a second year on the complete care warranty.

So all in all I got a second year of the Complete care warranty for $20 and will get my laptop a few days sooner.

I think that is WIN WIN!

lichensoul, same thing happened to me - I think they reduced the cost of the i7 upgrade from $300 to $200. So reconfigured it a bit and added the 2 year warranty :)

Trying to decide on an SSD now - thinking of picking up the Crucial M4 when it gets released next week...

Well done, mobilezila! I tried to order the day of the release, but the order didn't go through. Ended up saving me money in the long run (though I still couldn't stack the $350 and $50 coupons at the time).

Today it says 'in production' and 'shipped' at the same time in my account!

    Anyone seen that before?

Edit: I chatted with a rep. So oddly returns received can show as 'shipped' on the accounts page. That was just the credit applied for my returned unit; thought it'd be good to share in case anyone runs into that issue.

What's difference between 1GB and 2GB GT 540m? Is it just amount of RAM? Or is the 2GB faster RAM and/or more bandwidth?

It's more RAM across the same 128bit bus so if clocks are the same, no bandwidth improvement.

Ordered with every bell and whistle this time, except for the SSD. In red since my R1 was black. Now just waiting for the middle of May. Oh, anyone want to buy an m11xR1 ;)

Guess the thread should be renamed to "Placed my order before Dell screwed the pooch". Only reason I got the R3 was those three coupons. I'm glad lady luck was on my side for once!
